Kohli captaincy thread

Emergence of Kohli has resulted in two things - a great batsman but a bratty, immature captain who is not a great strategist.

If Pujara or Rahane had been as successful as Kohli in ODIs, they would have made better captains but alas it was not to be. Their temperament is more suited to becoming captain of team India.

Only thing I would say in Dhoni defence is since they fell out aka stopped talking ,which was stage England tour , we only played the tests against Australia and and then went to IPL.So Dhoni didn't play much during this time for India.

But yes its inconceivable that Dhoni didn't know of these issues .And he should have taken a lead as senior player to sort out this issue at the end of Aussie tour.

The same applies for other senior players like Yuvi Ashwin or Rohit as well.

As I mentioned in other thread every one of them (Kohli Kumble Dhoni Sachin Ganguly VVS Senior players) were to maintain the status quo and drag it to the Champions trophy.

Not a single person comes out this with any credit.

Ashwin,Rohit etc. I can understand they will stand by Kohli......Yuvi too I am surprised because I thought he had a good relationship with Kumble as they played along for so many years but maybe his friendship with Kohli made him pick a side.......Dhoni was the closest to Kumble from what I know and he is close to Kohli as well

He may be a great player. But the manner of sacking Kumble has left a very bitter taste in my mouth and would not allow any new coach to add any meaningful value.

Kohli's my way or high way approach is NOT going to leave any meaningful value to coach and no scope for creative disagreement.

Disagree bro...

Kohlis captaincy stats suggest otherwise...

He has mindboggling amazing stats as a Indian captain.. just cuz he lost one final, doesn't mean he is a bad captain

Kohli, Dhoni, Yuvi are all good friends. Ashwin, Jaddu, Rahane get support because Kohli backs them. Dont think they are buddies or anything.

I get a feeling they are paid by some agency to go on this mindless tirade against dhoni. No one is that vella and useless to keep posting same **** over and over again. For ex gollum, i thought he was from same brigade but his recent posts suggest something else.

This is true in lot of cases, not saying it is true for any poster here. I have first hand experience from one of my close friend working in PR agency. The have pretty big clients and we often have chats about how news are made and how a perception is created n stuff. They have a very organized channel all over the print, online as well as social media that works very smoothly as per the requirement.

Yep, I don't believe Kohli's sometimes hopeless team selections comes down to some of the players being buddies at all. I just think he's loyal to a fault. He wants people to feel secure about their place in the team. And that's well and good. Except when you start making clearly undeserving players feel secure about their place in the team. A place in the Indian cricket team isn't your typical sarkari job.

Damn so it takes the illuminati to criticize MS Dhoni???

MSD is criticized for obvious reasons...I am one of his biggest critics but I always called him

India's 2nd biggest MVP in LOIs since Kapil Dev

As disgusted as I am with all this whole Kumble-Kohli saga.....

serious question What is the role of Dhoni here?

Is he keeping total distance amidst the mess? In that case as a senior and almost a god father like figure, shouldn't he have stepped in to try and help out and broker peace?

Well wasn't ICF going all crazy as to how smart he was asking Jadhav to bowl and what a genius he was,why is Kohli getting totally crushed for captaincy failures?

What is the point of being a "senior" and "experienced" when your game is on it's way down and your input behind or on the the field is useless too?

No matter what it is Kohli's fault for letting his friends walk all over him.

Well I am sure Dhoni also tried to broker piece. But just like everyone else (Sachin, Ganguly, VVS and others if any) he also failed to come to a compromise.

Also, I am in favor of cricketers not cleaning their dirty laundry in public. So I am glad that they are not saying anything disrespectful directly in their interview. Even Kohli should be applauded to not come out and speak anything bad in media(hoping he doesnt make a fool out of me in upcoming days).

And Dhoni helping Kohli with strategies does not mean he is bossing over Kohli or making all decisions by himself. He is just a helping hand. And dare I say Virat needs him more now. The drama that is happening can even break the whole team where players start taking sides and we see factions fighting amongst themselves(like we often see with padosis). But hopefully we would not see that and team still stays United.

No, it does not. We all can criticize him. Its fine. Why not.

He is not playing at his best currently and they need to figure out his role in upcoming WC. I would say Pant should be playing 10 ODIs alongside Dhoni and if he performs better than Dhoni as keeper/batsman than he keeps the job. If not we continue to find his replacements and try them.

I'm not sure his stats are mindboggling. Excluding weak teams (Zim, bang, non-Test teams, WI), he has captained 16 matches and won 10 ODIs. In Tests, I think he's a better captain but has not really been tested in non-SC conditions (WI and SL are quite SC conditions).

Kohli's captaincy and selection of team was questionable in the ODI series and one off T20 match this July 2017. This was a perfect opportunity to try young blood in this inconsequencial series but he was afraid to take risks and hence this defensive thinking in captaincy too made Ind lose an ODI as well number 9 ranked team.

This thread will keep popping time n again after every loss

Some people do have an agenda against kohli specially the old fashioned ones who liked old cricketers bending when being sledged.

Some people for whom it wud be a chance to prove dhoni was superior captain. ( yes he was but his time as captain was up so get over it)

Some would just want to change something after every loss

Some to just put the blame on kohli for kumble saga

I aint impressed with his LOI captaincy , but he captains our team and lets keep agendas side. Agenda less criticism is needed even if it is stupid . Things like blaming dhoni is depressing to read......as once he is gone things wnt change much either.

Kohli deserves time to grow as captain and good he has dhoni as senior around for help and sharing different perspective.

Also even if u dnt like his captaincy, well reality is he is the best option we got as of now. Others cnt even keep their place in the team forget being a captain .

Indian cricket despite having money, resources and talent is and will suffer from just poor mentality only. We want to be champions but we dnt wanna get over mediocrity .

If the criteria is that the coach should get along with the captain I think she was the best candidate. You can see them smiling together, laughing, holding hands and maybe doing things we cannot talk about. I cant think of anyone else getting along with Kohli better than Anushka. Why is she not the coach? If we dont win the world cup I think it will come back to the poor selection of a coach. Missed the boat on this one.
