Vijay Shankar (Batting Pacer Allrounder) - Performance Watch thread

Shankar has really impressed, his variations are good and on target. Bowls according to situation, low key, does his job without doing anything OTT. I feel he'll be a better ODI player...can't wait to watch his batting.

Very impressed with Shankar bowling so far in the tournament. He looks a crafty bowler who knows his limitations.

He can bowl above 130k with control, in the channel, can surprise batsman with bouncer. Has shown some variety in his bowling & also can bowl yorkers.

He should be selected in all the formats.

He is calm and measured cricketer with a cool head.

He is also a captaincy material as he has been captain of Tamil Nadu

He was terrible but lets cut him some slack, its his first innings. Manish Pandey should take more blame.

Its pressure match but he should gotten bat on the ball. That was bad even a tailender these days get bat on ball. 4 dots on row is worse.

Much more complete batsman. Can play to the situation. Ideal number 5 for Indian ODI team

LOL.  Bias leaking all over the place.  Shankar proved that he doesn't have it (yet) on either side of the ball.

Horrible batting today. 1 run in. 5 balls in Fizz over when RR was 13plus. Could not even get bat on ball.

This is what may happen when one is forced to bat for the first time in international cricket in a final match and that too in the final few overs.

Rohit should have allowed both Shankar and Sunder to bat in some of the 4 league matches... to get them match ready in terms of batting.

Pandey was worse also first knock at the international level is in a pressure game in a pressure situation...still you either have to or you don’t. His fault to let nerves get to him.

However  unfair to write him off on 1 performance

He played a bad over to Mustafizur. Looked under pressure. I would just say that. T20s, lot of plaers have done the same thing, playing bad over.

Still it was horrible imo.  He batted worse than even a specialist bowler for so many balls in T20. It will be tough for any Indian player ( batsman or even specialist bowler) to bat badly than that. Not getting ball on  bat is unacceptable for so many balls. If it swings god knows what he will do.
