This was not the kind of pitch most teams batted on before too.

you serious there ? I dont care about such records , but thats the excuse we have now ? Highest score by a visiting team and thats cos thats cos the flattest pitch we have seen in 60-70 years ?

Some experts here where claiming we dont need 5 bowlers to beat this SL side , what happened now ? I guess am repeating the same again ;)

This is not an excuse, just the reason. This pitch had grass without moisture that kept the pitch intact and spinners didn't get the bite.  Also if we had taken those straight forward catches in the first innings when it had something for spinners, result could have been something different.

Also we didn't see much deterioration or cracks on this track because the pitch was not exposed to the sun in the first 4 days, only today sun came out. Had there been more sunlight in this match, our spinners could have got more zip but still only 2 wickets on the last day is very poor.
Leaving so many catches cost us big time. The margin of this series could've been lot better.

you talking about a side ranked No1 in the world at home against one of the weakest side . if we are going to win only when , there is grass for  our pace bowlers bowl , cracks when our spinners bowl and pitch turns flat when our batsmen bat ..Might as well stop following the match.

Fielding .... no need to look further.Dropping 5 catches and not expecting such records?????????Cricket is a momentum game especially with batsmen. When the batsman is new at the crease the momentum is completely with bowler. There the fielders need to capitalise by supporting bowlers. Then the batsman gets more and more into rythm by building on the chances he earlier got.Once well set the momentum is fully with batsman. So not a surprise that such a record is set after dropping Anjelo on 3

Yet another feather on our bowlers' caps.

Another feather on Ashwin's cap.

Wanderers. Sabina Park. New Delhi.

And our pacers.....what happened to them? They should have won us this test. Why should we always depend on spinners to win us the games?

@express bowling what's your take on our pace bowling the last day? Even with Shami and Ishant, we couldn't get those wickets.

Pitch was very flat, with predictable and average pace and bounce, little seam movement and insignificant reverse swing.  Not much help for spinners either.  We were on course to score 600+ here when we had to resort to a forced declaration.

It is not easy to take 20 wickets on such tracks.

However, it must be said that Ishant bowled too wide of off stump in the 2nd innings and did not make the batters play enough.

True mate. But you believe a team like SA wouldn't have won from this position? 3 down. Last day. Seamers looked good in the first hour. But spinners take 1 wicket each.

Our pacers ran amok in Sabina Park too the previous day when pitch had bite but when it lost zip, they didn't take a single wicket and Ashwin was held liable (not that it's wrong but he is just part of the problem).

Shami played in both tests and if he (who is undoubtedly our most complete pacer currently) can't take wickets, it's disappointing. Ishant was in good form too but he flopped but this is expected from Ishant.

In Ranchi too, our pacers flopped.

Wanderers too.

This is happening wayyy too often.

It was an easy paced wicket where batsmen had ample time to play their shots. India missed someone like Starc. Umesh ideally should play a role. But he is crap.

As someone said, is this the first flat wicket in the history of test matches in India? We broke a historical record. No 1 side with hyped pacers playing against a bottom ranked team

might not have if they were playing in India on this same pitch. They would actually lost against out spinners.

If we were playing against SA in SA, we would not have declared with a lead of just 400 on such a flat track with 4 sessions left.

Bowling in India has never been easy for pacers.

Only 5 pacers have averaged less than 30 in the last 5 years and 2 Indian pacers, Shami and Bhuvi,  are in the top 4... with averages of 24.9 and 26.2.

It is not like pacers from other countries are running through sides while bowling in India. A pacer like Starc averages 50.

Shami and Bhuvi have the best 2 SRs of 48 and 52.1 among pacers bowling in India in the last 5 years and only 6 pacers have SRs of less than 60.  Starc 86, Anderson 83, Hazlewood 79 and Broad 66 show how badly the celebrated pacers have fared.

p.s - I must add though that to take wickets on normal bounce patas when the ball is not reversing,  one needs pacers with extreme accuracy and good bounce, like a McGrath or a Kyle Abbot .... and we don't have any such pacer in our test team .... one of the main reasons why I have been clamouring for Bumrah in the test team.

With Ishant one never gets wickets. Most talentless bowler ever to play so many test matches.
