He is 18 year old. He was top scorer with SR 150 plus in TNPL and century too. He has a potential. Now at this age, it is all about potential. Those numbers you gave are old numbers and doesn't prove much because he is improving every day.  He is primarily an opener from his u19 days but his success as a bowler in IPL left an impression that he is a bowler but he is a part time bowler at best.

It's upon the management how they groom this lad. Seeing how the likes of Kuldeep, Rahul are treated I don't have high hopes. Only saving grace is the IPL, wherein if you perform well you'll always be in contention.

I’m assuming he is an opener who bowls off spin the same way Ashwin was.. I’ll reserve my comments till I see him bat.

kL injured again Lol not atall surprising he gets injured  every 2 weeks.. I ll say one of the reasons he is kept away starting XI.. Not reliable atall.

I fear he is too young, surely. Even for T20's.

 

Let him play one more two more seasons right before an India cap... Shankar and Agarwal in ODIs and / or Samson, Tripathi, Rana could have made these squads.

 

Sundars bowling makes him the edge as a selection though, and there arent many players who can be 6th bowling options , this is where Shankar should have been preferred. More consistent selection policy given he has played A team cricket and more experience.

I did see him bat in U19 WC last year. Ashwin never opened for India U19. While he was a top order bat.

If he is a specialist batsman, then its really good news. Haven't watched him bat yet. Initially when I saw him bowl I thought he was a specialist bowler. There is something in his bowling that makes it difficult to hit out. Can be a very good addition to the limited overs team.

He is not a specialist bowler. So people who thinks he is a bowler are going to be disappointed.

Has done decent for a 18 year old debutant. It's good to give him some international experience in such low profile series, will help in his development.

If he has power hitting and finishing ability at no 6 or 7 then only he can play as fifth bowler. Certainly not good enough to be first 4 bowler.

If hardik and sundar can develop as good batsman at no 6 and 7 then it could give excellent balance to the team.

good player to invest in,but today was a big risk by rohit sharma by playing two all rounders and 3 bowlers,this should not be the case in last game

It is an 18 year old playing his first international game and bowling in a situation especially when opposition has to chase 8 rpo and people are criticizing and passing judgment already

 

I seriously wish ICF was around in 1989 when a 16 year old Sachin debuted.... people would have called him a hack as well
