Having come from injury on those decks Ash should have never been in the squad let alone in the playing XI. We even had the warning when we lost the match against Sri lanka. Still they went with crass selection. Seriously substandard team Pakistan is. Laaloo, Vilander and Suhaan 3
rkt.india Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 if they had identified Rahul at 4, they should have stuck with him and not discard after 3 games.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) Easier said then done, as it can take a lot of time Currently we cant become, by 2023 we can We have a lot of talent but thats not enough . That talent has to be groomed and that talent itself have to deliver. Those new player will get chance take time to become consistent player so thats a long process. The problem with current squad is the setup which doesnt encourage a new talent to develop and the mediocrity in the linup which in reality n current scenario is our best chance. Having talent doesnt mean most of them are ready or they ll immediate become the backbone of team Edited February 10, 2018 by Ankit_sharma03
Straight Drive Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Kedar and Shreyas costing us matches with dropped catches. Somehow we didn't loose when Kedar dropped catches in first few matches, but today Shreyas catch cost us the match. Think only Manish Pandey is a better fielder than this lollipop droppers. Useless fielders in middle order.
bowl_out Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Mark my words. Raina will do well in T20s, and get back to the ODI side, and take the flight to England for the WC. We'll likely end up playing Pandey or Rahane at 4, Dhoni at 5 and Raina at 6.
rkt.india Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 Need to fix #4-5 first. Stop playing musical chairs. Identity two players and let them settled, play then 20-30 games. I will play Rahul at 4, Hardik at 5. He is wasted at 7. Nitish Rana is another candidate for 4-5. Iyer is not #5. Mosher 1
Straight Drive Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 We will get a world domianting ODI team if we fix our middle and lower order batting !!! Crux of the problems. Mosher and express bowling 2

How can they identify Rahul at number 4, this guy had 79. SR in List A .You think magically when he bats at number 4 he will strike better than 100 SR. What makes you think Rahul who is struggling to make runs in list A (he did score 100 in his last list a match) will magically score runs once he is inserted into number 4 spot.

Kohli was a flop in first 4-5 years of T20 cricket and now he has evolved into one of the best in that format. Rahul isn't the same player now he was 3 years back. He has a T20I SR of 147. Even his T20 domestic stats won't give the best idea about his evolution as a batsman because they include the stats of the past when he was still improving. Three years back, i did not want him anywhere near ODI or T20 team, but he is an essential part of our T20 side. Moreover at #4, you dont need sloggers, you don't need a player who has an SR of 100. Even Kohli and dhoni does not have an SR of 100 in ODIs. You want a proper batsman at 4 who has the ability to change gears when needed and Rahul has evolved over the past 2-3 years and can easily be such batsman we are looking for. Mosher 1

He is in team for T20s because he has good SR .It does not mean he will great at number 4 in odis. People were clamoring for him as opener in tests too he did play more than Dhawan and what did he do there. Dhawan is awesome odi opener but stinks in T20s.So you can't just say Rahul has great SR in T20s so he will be great in odis also, it is different mindset for both. Kohli was a flop in T20s but he used IPL to become the best , has Rahul shown he has done that other than his 100 in last match he has struggled in list A too. Rahul has to make up his mind and decide what he wants to do, if he wants to be number 4 he needs to bat there in List A too to show that he is ready for it .he can't open in list A and then go back to number 4 in odis.

Rahul made a 100 against WI in 2016 at no 4 in t20 , how many player have done that at no.4 in t20 He made runs in IPL at no.4 as well Now about ur t20 n odi logic, HE hasnt been even given a chance to adjust in middle order. Just 2-3 games where he got stuck against a mystery spinner which at times can be tough. Remeber ajanta mendis against whom our top batsman struggled. So it can take time specially adjusting in a new position and then u get a mystery bowler like akila who at times even fooled rohit sharma who is well adjusted in his position. Read all sehwag or rohit interview where they both have mentioned how ganguly n dhoni gave them confidence that they ll be given enough opportunities at new position . Kohli from stating "rahul as to good a batsman to sit out" decalred his case hopeless in 2-3 innings . Anybody who has seen Rahul bat will never question his s/r List-A is pretty misguiding...... Rahul doesnt have to make his mind, its the team that has to make its mind how n where to use him. In terms of game their is no better option then KL rahul at this time and in terms of talent also he is best among bench strength. Jimmy Cliff 1

Why is list A misguiding he did fail in last two out 3 list A matches. If list A is not criteria for selecting odi player what is criteria then. I have seen enough of Rahul , I don't think he is that good which people here making him to be.He is going to be 26 soon not 20 where you can excuse him to be a new comer.
PBN Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) Theres only two spots open #4 and #5. Dhoni and Pandya are permanent as far as team think tank is concerned. I'd put Rahul at #4 and #5 is up for grabs for either Jadhav, Iyer, Pandey. Personally, I'd choose Jadhav. Why is team keeping Jadhav at #7 in this series. When there was a relative easy chase this series, Dhoni and Pandya came in before him. Jadhav should get exposure in the middle in foreign conditions. No need for Dhoni to be coming up the order in easy chases. #4 Rahul #5 Jadhav Give them a run and see how they perform Edited February 12, 2018 by PBN express bowling 1

Vilander Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Gill and Rahul just scored centuries in KA vs Pjb. They should be drafted into this side. have a backup for pandya 1 pace allrounder( vj shankar) and 1 spin, and we are done. and Kohli (Dhoni) will lead us to victory again..
Straight Drive Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 This is second ODI match in this series, wherein our openers have scored a ton, yet due to poor batting from the middle order (positions 4 to 7), we yet again fail to score a 300. Just imagine a day when none of the top 3 score a ton or contribute with bat, it's going to be very bad total. express bowling and velu 1 1
express bowling Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 All our batters from No.4 to No.7 are below-par based on current day ability. The casualness of the new batters is appalling... be it Shreyas, Hardik, Rahul, Kedar or Pandey. Straight Drive 1
maniac Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Pandya is a luxury we can afford if our top 5 are amazing....can’t afford him in the current scenario.

Yet they flopped. Under pressure it could be even worse for ex. if we have lost Rohit, Shikhar and Virat for 20 runs or so. express bowling 1
