What will be role of Pandya in this test series?

he has an equally important role in the side as a bowler, if he is a batting all rounder much more is expected out of him rather than  1-2 fifties

he has done more than what Kohli had done in his first 7 tests.  So, he is certainly on course in that aspect.  Ashwin and jaddu are bowling alrounders, so, there are more expectations from them in bowling than batting. Pandya is there to provide rest to main bowlers and bowl 10-12 overs a day.  His wickets are bonus like Ashwin, Jaddu, and BK's runs are bonus.  if he can get at least 2 wickets per test that will be fine.

thats what we used to expect from a Ganguly not Pandya, wickets are bonus, if you are as good as Kallis in so far as batting is concerned

he has to show some performance in bowling as well to merit a place in the side,if he is there to provide rest for the bowlers then we may better give chances to full fledged batsman

His batting is weak too, he can't be reliable as a main batsman.

it is horses for courses. You have to be half useful in one of the department.

So you're saying Jadeja would've done a worse job than Pandya with the ball? Looking at the turn in this pitch sounds like a bold call.

No. They should have gone with Jadeja. On a flat deck may be Pandya would have been more useful as he can score quickly down the order also chip in a few overs.

The tail only scored 18 runs among them so Pandya's knock was very helpful to the Indian team .... Pandya is a better batsman than those he is competing against .... Ind is bowling relatively well. It is batting that has been a let down up to this point

If the pitches are as dry as this one, throughout the series, I'll take a punt on 2 spinners instead of Pandya. This test has shown us that the batting is in even worse shape, than I feared initially, so Jadeja gets the nod for his slightly useful batting down the order.

He's not better than Jadeja, he hit a match winning 50 in Lords last time. On flat tracks I'd argue Pandya is better, but not here against the moving ball.

After accounting for 5 specialist batsmen, 4 specialist bowlers and best WK, I like to have one player in the 11 with the x factor. Before this test Pandya has 4 50+ scores in 10 innings so I would rate him higher for his ability to get a big score (relative to those he is competing against) .... Pandya did well in difficult batting conditions in SA with that 90 odd and has already played a valuable knock in the 1st inning

Pandya played 1 chancy innings out of 6, IIRC he was even dropped more than once. Now for his 50+ scores, all of them are in Asia bar that 90 and while we're at it check Jadeja batting avg since 2015. As for the X factor - if Pandya cannot take wickets then he has nothing, unless you rate Pandya the bowler higher than India's best rated spinner?
