You can play a good batsman in place of one of the struggling batsmen. You don't improve your weakness by persisting with struggling batsmen and then adding another one to cover while reducing your options in other area :winky:

If you compare our batting to England. Both teams struggled. Both top orders struggled . But Curran and woakes are the difference. Both all rounders panda isn't in their class. Would rather have a batsman in place of pandya.

Pandya actually won us a game! .... Even Jadeja and Ashwin will get runs in home conditions .... Why would you want to protect the struggling batsmen? .... Bring Vihari or whoever in place of one of the struggling batsmen and increase your batting prowess :dontknow:

The only people who struggled are openers. We know we don't have options except throwing Shaw infront of cloud bullies. Pujara, virat and rahane have scored runs. Dk was replaced with pant. The only batsman slot is no6 that pandya holds. I think it is a fair game to drop pandya. Also he played 4 tests. Let's see how vihari plays few tests. Even though pandya won us a game the consistency  is missing in simple contributions

. He could have at least score 30-40 in first and 4 th test in second innings.

Not everyone is supposed to be consistent. Every team needs different type of players. Some players are impact players. Pandya is due for a good performance. What if we miss Pandya's impactful performance in this game  .... We have to consider all type of options and not arrive at conclusions as if this is a math problem .... We could open with someone like Pujara and accommodate a different batsman .... Not too confident about Rahane. But I hope that he does well

68/1 - Even at Lunch

123/1 - Even at Tea

198/7 - India at close of play

Totally India's day. India is ahead. But they can comeback on Day2. The pitch is not a perfect batting pitch. They had 2 slow 50 run partnerships hence it is even for 2 sessions and India surged ahead after tea. It is not a perfect batting pitch, the old ball was also seaming quite a bit, they didn't have to take a new ball. It will be difficult for India but with an extra batsman, others can play more freely instead of being extra careful, plus there is nobody to reverse sweep in the lower MO like fatass.

Extra batsman is just in the head.

As they say - hope for the best, prepare for the worst

for me that was the one moment in Indian cricket history(not sure about any other) where  2 exceptional good talents(one turned great and other at the least 'very good' emerged out together. And then started a golden run  for Indian cricket from 2000-2010 with Laxman & Sehwag too joining in.

The core of the matter is that we always need that trial & error method to be applied  to trace out fresh talents. This  team management  just gets stuck with tried players. For instance, even Pujara is not at all adequate in the long run. For the moment there is no other option. But team should always look for new talents who can be much better than him in what ever oppertunities  they get like trying them in dead rubbers, against lower ranked teams,in home matches etc etc.

If that time it was Sachin now there is Kohli. Rahane too is there. Trying Vihari,Gill,Shaw,Iyer and some others if any are the need of the hour.Keep on continuing with  complete hacks like Dhawan,Kartik etc  will do only harm.

More importantly bowling unit is far better than what it was in Sachin era. So, if we get almost near calibre batting unit to compliment this  bowling unit, team can achieve great results.
