Mayank Aggarwal to debut in Boxing Day Match | No Hardik Pandya

Australia have made one change to their XI for the third Domain Test, with Mitchell Marsh called in for Peter Handscomb.

Skipper Tim Paine revealed his side for the Boxing Day Test following Australia’s Christmas morning training session at the MCG.

Meanwhile India have suffered a blow with team management confirming spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has not fully recovered from an abdominal strain and won't be available for the MCG Test, with the BCCI also confirming their XI.

Mayank Agarwal will make his debut, while openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay have both been axed.

Any reason why the change in practice for team announcing 11 a day ahead of the toss? They can announce internally to the players, I mean announcing to the media? A few series ago, this was not the case.

Mayank should expect some quick short pitch stuff. I have seen glimpses of him where he looks a little off against short pitch bowling and add to the fact that he got hit by just random throw down drills practicing short bowling.

Pujara is again de facto Opener. As Rohit would return to the pavilion quickly, or Vihari in a completely new (unfair to Vihari) role. And MA being tested with short ball. Will bring ChePu to the crease within a few overs of the new ball.

 

If ChePu has to face the shiny new ball as soon as the innings starts and wicket falls, then whats the difference with opening which is the same thing?

 

Which is why I dont understand why HP has not been preferred over Rohit. Since HP will bat as terrible as RS, but perhaps be able to bowl some relief overs. Or Bhuvi for No-hit. Again will bat as terrible (single digit) as RS, but can bowl some relief overs. So, why is No.hit in the 11 ?

 

What trust has No.hit inspired in Test matches?

Sure Rohit might score the same as Pandya and Pandya has the added advantage of bowling a few overs. Agreed.

 

However Pandya can at best contribute here and there if he doesn’t totally  fail but Rohit can be a one man army, A one man swat team/stealth fighter than can win the game on his own on his day.

 

High risk high reward.

 

Anyway time is running out. This should be his last shot.

On paper yes. But it is Pandya who has played some of the  knocks fans dream about (100 in SL, 90 odd in SA, ....) relatively speaking outside India recently, along with winning a test with the ball

And where is @UnknownGenius? I am missing his BML posts. He might have been OTT and slightly mental but there was truth in some of his words. This lobby has screwed Indian cricket more than what Nehru dynasty has done to the nation. I would rather have had no Gavaskar, no Sachin, no Vengsarkar representing our country in exchange for being spared their dirty politics and nepotism.

I am not even a Pandya fanboy but he offers much more to our test team than Rohit. The specialists in this team aren't good enough, maximum 7-8 can register their names on the basis of primary skill. I can't understand why we refuse to play more all rounders in such dire times. And what is Kohli's problem with Kuldeep? 

Win or lose this TM is taking Indian cricket backwards. Where we are heading towards it will take another 5 years just to get into the right track.
