SK_IH
Well played but Vijay Shankar helped him early on as he was more proactive when Rayudu was playing dots after dots. Imagine Dhoni with Rayudu at that time, it would have been a disaster. I hope Virat is constantly in the ear of Rayudu to be attacking. Cricketics 1 Link to comment

BlueBlood
I can't really understand the hate Rayudu has here. Games like today is exactly why he is in the team - to consolidate and take the game deep so that Jadhav, Pandya etc. can finish strong. 50 over cricket is all about top 3 - if they all fail odds of winning shrinks a lot. So having Pant or any hitter is useless at that point. Dhoni and Rayudu are crucial even with their slow scoring to salvage a win as our bowling is strong these days. The current setup we have, it's not like a prime Yuvraj is waiting in the wings or something. We have to make do with the most experienced players of the lot and give them confidence to shine. This will probably the last world cup for Dhoni, Rayudu, DK, Jadhav, Dhawan etc. so they need to be backed without experimentation. I think the whole concept of stacking team with all-rounders no longer works as all tracks these days are so batsman friendly that having gun wicket takers will be a difference between winning and losing. bendit100
Rayudu can hit it big but he is not fit for #4 slot in the Indian team. He was really lucky today as he did his best to get out but each time he survived due to luck. He should have been out atleast 8 times in this innings if not more. He also ran out Vijay Shankar who played risk free innings with a higher strike rate. Anybody who watched the game today can safely judge that Rayudu did hit and miss on atleast 8 balls and hit it high in the air 4 times but the ball fell without the fielder catching it. He has no ability to rotate the strike and needs to release the pressure by hitting it in the air. Additionally his ground fielding is below par and not a safe catcher. He did hit big today but it was full of risks and he was really lucky. At best Rayudu is good for a #7 or #8 slot. Vilander, Laaloo and velu 3 Link to comment

The question isn't about simply rotating strike, the question is about the end result - did someone win the game for the team or not. Vijay Shankar played well but the run out was 50% his fault too. Plus we have seen in that T20 game with BANG, in crunch situation he couldn't clear the ropes which is a lack of experience. This world cup with our B team we can easily reach semis or top 4. But from there to end up winning it will be all about handling pressure and being able to take the game all the way to the end which Shankar, Gill etc. cannot do. You really have to understand that at the end of the day, if Rayudu plays more knocks like these, whether it's by luck, fluke or whatever, he has done has job and is in the team for precisely these types of knocks. Vilander
To all his sucking in rotating strike and hitting out in the air. Risky innings etc. He was hooking like a badass yesterday and pulled a few shots those 6s were good too. May be he should come down as a hitter. Cricketics 1 Link to comment
gattaca
The runout of Shankar can’t be just blamed on rayudu. Shankar didn’t even run after the ball passed the fielder he was ball watching. Link to comment

I think the whole concept of stacking team with all-rounders no longer works as all tracks these days are so batsman friendly that having gun wicket takers will be a difference between winning and losing. Have you seen him bat ? Do you think his name is the one that comes to mind in high scoring games which are often occuring in England ? Or does his name bring solidity in batting ? Most of us don't agree with either. They say (and I agree) that Dhoni was a gun odi batsman. Now imagine someone who shows even greater potential by scoring hundreds in Eng & Aus against quality bowling on his first tour. That kind of talent with good strokeplay is cooling his heels. Many of us are thus pissed that Pant who has shown the fight in all conditions is just ignored while limited players like Rayudu & Dhoni these days are being preferred. I expect Rayudu or Dhoni to both play the WC. But then I do think they just aren't the best we got in their respective roles, and it's too late to try new names. Link to comment
