They said the same thing about Shreyas Iyer but he has played some good knocks. Suryakumar Yadav should be tried in LOIs. If he fails, he fails. But you won't know without trying. Link to comment
TNAmarkFromIndia
Two good innings in a row. That too in a chase. He's got great hitting ability but also gave away his wicket. But it's still way better than Rayudu who'd rather quietly take singles and stay not out and let the other guy take all the risk. Link to comment
Straight Drive
On 1/24/2020 at 10:43 PM, Straight Drive said: The last ODI against Aussies and this T20 win due to Iyer taking pressure and dong finishers role successfully, will also releive Kohli the batsman as he now knows there is someone who can take team to victories even if he is out. Kohli can also play more freely given how things are turning out in last few matches. Even the batsmen coming after Iyer know that they have a match-winner at other end. It just boosts the confidence and morale within the batting lineup. Add one more innings by Iyer which played significant role in win. 3 quality knocks in two weeks time. Link to comment
TNAmarkFromIndia
First century. Possibly could've come 2 years earlier if given a longer rope in 2018. velu 1 Link to comment
vvvslaxman
We are blaming Kohli for being impatient. Turns out some of the fans are also impatient. Gets beaten a couple of balls, a maiden over we already start judging a player. Dhoni with that lunging technique has scored over 10000 runs lol Let us give this guy some chances to establish himself. Link to comment
diga
Agree he played well under the circumstances...but now after seeing both sides bat , he becomes match ka mujrim Link to comment
ganeshran
If you score a century less than run a ball (which is fine) but you have to accelerate on the backend which Iyer failed to do. Link to comment
RajBan
We did not lose the match because of Iyer. Iyer can definitely improve further in terms of SR but he did well given the situation he came to bat today when the ball was doing a bit. We did not select our best bowling line-up because the team management have a misplaced faith in Thakur's ability. Thakur may work in T20 at times but in an ODI teams will work him out over the course of 50 overs and target him as per convenience. Add to this we overall had an ordinary performance by Bumrah and Shami and woeful performance by Kuldeep, all three our main strike bowlers kind of put us into backseat. And let's also give some credit to NZ who played without their Frontline bowlers and Williamson and still beat India. We got beaten by NZ A team today to be honest. Link to comment
putrevus
^^^ They were two debutants for India and other than Kohli none of the top 5 Indian batsmen played played more than 30 odi matches. India was playing their weakest lineup too. Straight Drive 1 Link to comment
NameGoesHere
I like how this guy plays alright, but he certainly fancies himself and isn't shy about it: https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/28640012/first-many-shreyas-iyer-maiden-odi-century Quote "......"I am very happy but if it had ended on a winning note I would have been even happier. Nikhil_cric
His weaknesses against pace are a bit overblown. He scored mainly against pace today. If he is weak against pace then we have no batsmen against pace at all. Link to comment

Iyer even on his best day wont do that. Iyer/pandey are players suited primarily to ODI. Iyer would never play for this england t20 side, niether should he for India. Sky deserves it more and he has already proven it,its a travesty iyer is playing above someone like Sky in our t20 setup. Mosher and Ankit_sharma03 2 Link to comment

If you add Dhawan then its worse. Edited March 13, 2021 by Lone Wolf Link to comment

In a span of last 1 year, Shreyas has played these T20s knocks for India:- 1. 58 off 29 balls vs NZ in NZ( MOM) 2. Match winning 12*(5) vs Aus in Aus 3. 67(47) vs ENG yesterday That is three really top bowling sides. None of them are Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh type teams at whom the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar, Babar Azam, Kedhar Jadhav and Ambati Rayudu feast on.
