JourneyMan
Solid win by England. Regarding South Africa their current side is quite average compared to previous teams, in the same way that Sri Lanka are only a shadow of their old sides. It doesn't help that Steyn couldn't play and that Amla got hit on the helmet. Apart from Australia and England I don't really see any strong contenders. NZ have a small chance, and WI might surprise us but in the end I only see two teams potentially winning this tournament. Link to comment
nitinbwj
I can understand Archer. He had pace, bounce and looked like taking wicket every over but all the other bowlers were average. This was a piss poos batting performance. No planning,no nothing. Link to comment

He is a lottery guy. Not a steady, proper hitter like Bairstow, Butler. We have seen that at the international level. IPL slogging at feroza kotla is different. At this point he has no place in the playing XI unless Dhoni retires. So he will suddenly start trembling with fear while facing Archer as he did in IPL ,well i dont think ipl is any simulating machine where we see fake battles That batting order is lifeless, with Dhoni and Jadhav there Edited May 30, 2019 by Suhaan diehardpacer and Laaloo 2 Link to comment
Franco Vazquez
Sad to see SA becoming a borderline minnow. If you told me a year ago when this match was announced that its gonna end this way, I would think you are stupid Link to comment

Second of all you don't play good bowlers more than 1 or 2 overs in the T20. Here ARcher has 10 overs. THey can keep coming at you. First of all India's problem is not lack of sloggers. One-dimensional players is the problem. Pant is another one dimensional player. Can't bowl, Can't field. Stokes, Ali, Woakes, Root, ARcher, Plunkett, Rashid can all bat and bowl. You cannot play with so many one dimensional players. We had Raina, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Yuvraj that could bowl. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
They were so strong they could leave Tom Curran out !! Link to comment
vvvslaxman
India backs one-dimensional bowlers only because we expect them to skittle teams out for below par total. They better do their job. Link to comment

A lot can happen. But in that case, I'd rather England win it. I don't want to see Australia win another WC. They already have enough for now. Time for a new winner. Link to comment

Didn't exactly prove to be a specialist batsman. He is way below someone like Subhman Gill as a pure batsman. Link to comment

philcric
Bad loss for SA. That DeKock and VanDamme partnership should have carried on for longer to make the match interesting. Okay-ish match to start the WC. Thankfully no rain. Link to comment

He is a pinch hitter at best. Even in the domestic list A he didn't exactly set the world ablaze. Unless he can bowl he has no place in the side. Jadhav has 27 wickets. Some of them were match turning. When a bowler breaks down or goes for a lot of runs India needs someone else to bowl. Only spot he can claim is Dhoni's. No other place. Let us not project Pant is some sort of Adam Gilchrist. Link to comment

Not just pinch hitting. Either keeping (like Gilchrist) or Bowling. He cannot be a pinch hitter without ever having batting at that position. He will be facing guys like Archer, Rabada, Roach. There will be chin music upfront. As usual his half balanced shot will go up in the air. It probably will clear 55 meter boundaries at Kotla, Wankhede not here. India has 7 batsmen to score 300 runs There is no position for pinch hitting. Everybody should have the ability to stay as long as possible while scoring quickly. No team should go in with just 5 specialist bowlers.6th bowelr Jadhav. Dhoni is dead cert. REmaining 4 will be taken by Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Rahul. Whose place he will take without any top order credentials. First of all you should not think about scoring 350 to feel safe. If a bowling line up that has Bumrah, Shami, KUlcha cannot restrict opposition below 350 more often than not then what is the use of backing them instead of backing players with batting potential? Very reason India goes with 4 out and out tailenders is because they are world class bowlers and are expected to keep opposition below par total. Link to comment
Nikhil_cric
As expected , chasing is not going to be easy . Faf messed up by not opting to bat first. He did the same in tests Vs Pakistan. This is why India won't go far in this tourney either. You cannot make such defensive, conservative decisions. England are the only GREAT chasing team currently and even they are better off batting first. On another note, a great start to the CWC. Couldn't have been better. Link to comment
