You cant polish a turd. Shankar needs to do lot more to play again in 11, let alone play in World Cup team. I cant for the life of me, figure out how this guy made it to the national squad. He is mediocre in all aspects, barring ground fielding where he is decent but that's expected nowadays.

Still don't mind Shankar for another game. But they should surely bring in Pant or DK for Jadhav then.

 

Both Shankar and Jadhav can't be in the playing XI. They provide the same thing - batsman who can bowl a few overs.

 

If Kohli backs Shankar, then play Pant at 6. If Shankar fails again, drop him and get DK at 4 or bring back Jadhav against BD.

 

At least the good part is we have three games to experiment. We can even play all of Shankar, Jadhav, Pant and DK against SL and rest Dhoni and Pandya to figure out the best combination before the semis

Besides his limited ability, Shankar is also mentally fragile. He doesnt seem to be able to handle pressure of playing in World Cup. Whenever pressure gets a little high, he goes for a slog.Now that we are near the end of league stage and knockouts, pressure will be even higher. Karthik over Shankar will be a sensible decision.
