Ankit_sharma03 Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Sachin was the greatest Rohit is an ATG ODI player now.....many may not agree but suck it he is now Since we have this obsession of making ATG XI.....Whom among these 3 left handers was better or whom would you pick ? Dhawan as opener 131 innings- 5518 runs at an avg of 44.50 , s/r 94.02 Ganguly as opener 236 innings - 9146 runs at avg of 41.57 with s/r of 73.59 Gambhir as opener 91 innings - 3367 runs at an avg of 39.61, s/r of 86.49 Ganguly does give the additional option of Captaincy n Bowling Gambhir does give the option of captaincy to Gambhir peak was shortest and due sehwag n sachin at his peak he had to bat mostly at 3 In terms of fielding i dont think any of was great , may be ganguly n gambhir might be better at catching and dhawan running in outfield Running between the wkts wud go to dhawan n gambhir, specially in middle over gambhir was great with dhoni n kohli with his running Dhawan attacking game is far more evolved due to t20s .Having said that ganguly during that 96-2001 was quite good to. Even gambhir at his peak was quick to get runs Acc to me gambhir was a better player of Spin and Dhawan better player of pace Ganguly had an advantage of 15 over PP, Even gambhir time had 15-20 over PP Dhawan as opener has faced 2 new balls but also wkts have become a lil more flatter and many sides attack have gone down After considering all the factor ill go for Dhawan but this wud be a very small margin decision So who would be your choice ?

Ankit_sharma03 Posted November 30, 2019 Author Posted November 30, 2019 About ODI WCs Ganguly played 3 1999- was great in it 2003- good, got 100s against minnows 2007- player poor innings Gambhir played only 2011 -Played well against Sa, ENG, Aus but most importantly played the most important knock in final Dhawan 2015- was the highest scorer for India in that Wc 2019- he was started to have another good one before he got injured (Was India's best batsman i think in Both CT as well )
Laaloo Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Dhawan most times he has to attack since rohit Sharma is at the other end ganguly had the luxury of batting with Sachin and sehwag and still only managed a strike rate of 73 Gollum 1
SecondSlip Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 All 5 of Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Dhoni & Bumrah would be included in the Greatest Indian ODI Team

I mean this is a guy who can score a team par score all by himself :) sarcastic, The Dark Horse and sergio04 3
maniac Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Need to also take the new rules into account. But still I would take Dhawan over Ganguly in ODIs. Scoring 100s in the middle order is way easier now though with the new rules but 2 new balls makes opening marginally more difficult.
sandeep Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Gangu was a selfish ball hog, and shyte runner of singles. Watching Veeru run singles with Tendulkar as opener was like bright sunshine after a 3 year long night. Gangu was a class batsman and scored a ton of ODI 100s in the late 90s. But his starts in ODI innings would make Rohi's slowpoke starts look like a T20 on steroids. adi B, Ankit_sharma03, The Dark Horse and 2 others 5
rahulrulezz Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Gambhir. The most underrated south paw we have had. T20 wordcup final He single handedly scored all the runs 50 world up final. New swinging ball, Sehwag and Sachin out, Malinga bowling with new ball, guess who took us from 16-2 to 180-3, it was Gambhir Underrate him as much as you want, but the guy has his heart bleedfor India. Donates his salary for war martyrs families in short, Gambhir over both Ganguly and Da1 sandeep, putrevus, sergio04 and 1 other 4
SK_IH Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 (edited) Gauti, he had a magical run for 3-4 years and he helped India win two world tournaments in that time frame. Absolute Clutch Edited December 1, 2019 by SK_IH Khota 1
Vijy Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 gambhir at his peak could score briskly and also hunker down and see off tough conditions. the issue is that he had a sharp peak, and did not do much in the career either before or after that. but during this peak, I would take him over ganguleee and dhawan. sandeep 1

Our Justin Langer, but better. If he had a better team around him, he would have been celebrated even more.

Bharat ke sipahi While obviously Gambhir is a better white ball player than Langer who hardly played in that format for Australia, how is he better than Langer as a test bat? I think (atleast hope) that you are smart/competent enough to look at Langer’s stats yourself in test cricket. Its not apples to apples, don’t throw around a comparison because it sounds fancy Edited December 1, 2019 by maniac Gollum 1

maniac Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Just now, sandeep said: Not all comparisons are about "stats". Go google why Ravi Jadeja is such an effective bowler in test cricket. Langer was a very good batsman, if anything he is underrated just like Damien Martyn because of all the other star studded names in the side. They were the right pieces in the puzzle that made Aussies what they were. Also Gambhir too played with one of the best batting line ups assembled in test history. So how did Langer have more advantages than Gambhir. Firstly it is a ridiculous comparison. both were very good batsmen with different skill sets and strengths and formats. Gollum 1
maniac Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Back to the thread Gambhir, Dhawan and Ganguly in that order
