SecondSlip Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Kohli, Pujara, Rahane & Rohit are all relatively the same age. All four of these guys still have a few years more of test cricket in them. Virat Kohli might even play an extra couple of years more considering how fit he is! The first 2 names are currently some of the best batsmen currently in this format. Whereas the latter 2 are not as good but still doing a decent job as of now! Which 4 batsmen from our domestic scene do we have that can replace these guys once their retirement beckons? We already have Vihari and Gill on the bench waiting for their chances. We used to have Shaw in the playing XI before he got suspended, but I believe that he will be back in the senior team sooner than later. Shreyas Iyer averages 52 in FC cricket, so he should definitely be an option as well. Who else do you think should be in our future test team and at what position should they bat in? Personally I would like to see Shaw and Agarwal as openers, Shubman Gill at #4 in place of his idol followed by Vihari at 5 & Iyer at 6 where he can counterattack the opposition with Rishabh Pant who will be at #7! Shaw Agarwal ? Gill Vihari Iyer Pant (WK) The only missing piece to this top 7 puzzle is a solid #3 who could be a good replacement of Pujara in the future. We need someone here who can see off the new ball and attack once the ball becomes older and easier to bat against, just like Pujara! I believe that we will miss him much more than Kohli in this format, a really underrated player!

In that case, there is no need for an extra batsman. there is no need for no. 3 to always be a blocker. people like ponting and viv richards both batted at 3 very successfully; viv had an avg of 62 or so. what matters is reasonable technique, high-quality temperament and a flexible game. there are plenty of candidates around: easwaran (who can play at opening, moving one of the openers to 3), priyam garg, jaiswal, etc. SecondSlip 1
VT87 Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 No one ,we wil back to minnow level after this generation retired, all our newcomers are product of IPL ,all style but no substance. putrevus Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Shaw and Gill are the only next generation players at this time.Mayank, Rahul and other like them are stop gap only they will never be core players. People are refusing to accept but the standard of batting in domestic cricket has declined drastically. We are not even producing sloggers who could be worthwhile players in t20s.

He should start playing tests as well otherwise we are wasting him. Needs to replace Rahane soon. Rahane is putting on the runs though but this phase will be over soon SecondSlip 1
Vilander Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Mayank Rahul Vihari Pant Gill Iyer Shaw We wont even notice a dip.
Vilander Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Wish and Know Kohli plays for few more years. Really wish Rohit become fit and plays long in ODI. Others Puj might slow down further next season, Rahane is soft might wither away.

Samcric Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Players with their ages. Shaw (20) Mayank (28)/Easwaran(24) Gill(20) Iyer(24) Vihari(26) Ankit Bawne(26)/Riyan Parag (18) Pant(22) Kuldeep(24)/Anukul Roy(21) Mavi(21)/Nagarkoti(20) Saini(27)/ Avesh(23) Bumrah(26)/Siraj(25) If I could ask for one wish, it would be for Saini, Siraj (even Avesh if he can find an interested team) to play a county season under a capable bowling coach like Gilespie or Bond. After Zaheer and now Ishant, it is hard to argue against it's benefits. Cricwala 1
Vickydev Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Priyank Panchal has a very compact technique, both on front and back foot. To me he looked the best in the A team tour to WI.

Iyer has a long way to go in LOI 1st and in long format not even on radar of A team

I was always a fan of bawne's approach to batting, but he always does rather poorly in Ind A matches. parag is not yet a long format player. priyam garg is looking more impressive thus far IMO.

Saini, Suraj, Avesh can't play county even if they want to.

There were many such players who had contracts in 2019 like Logan van Beek, Daniel Worrall, Chad Sayers etc. Yes, Avesh needs to play a T20I somewhere. My point was more about interest in bowlers to play county and get experience of playing in foreign conditions and pitching the bowl up for long periods of time. I don't think Indian bowlers have much interest in going through that grind. Even Ishant went there as he found no takers in IPL.
