That could be said of both games.

u19 players are inexperienced kids, and their mistakes are way more forgivable.

Total no-brainer.  I enjoy keeping up with U19 cricket, but only to get a glimpse of the future of Indian cricket.  It is not professional cricket

The Champions Trophy loss, OTOH, was a complete disaster - The actual Indian team of professionals was the odds-on favorite, but looked clueless on the field and nonchalant after the match.  No excuses.

U-19 shouldn't be taken so seriously, more about finding 1-2 outstanding talents who can do great things a few years down the line. 2006 U-19 team gave us Rohit, Pujara and Jadeja...so we were the winners even though we couldn't chase 106 in the final. Plus this was a close loss, boys fought hard....no abject surrender.

CT 2017 F a different matter...stupid toss decision, team selection, dressing room politics and margin of defeat . Worse than the 2008 RG F beatdown (my worst sports memory before that) and moreover we were a far better team, smashed them in the group stage.

Not sure if any team that gives you a Jadeja is worth celebrating - not downplaying his test achievements but in limited overs cricket he has sucked.

So what man, agree he is lucky to play in coloured jersey. But he is a frikkin legend in tests, our home dominance is legendary, by 2022 we will hear people talking about how Kohli's India is the GOAT home side. We will have a reputation like Nadal on clay and Jaddu will have a big contribution. Him playing shorter formats isn't his fault, onus is on TM and selectors to keep him out.

I am skeptical of this U-19 squad. (i) garg has regressed, (ii) the pacers have speed and some good skills, but their temperament and consistency is not on par with mavi/nagarkoti, (iii) bishnoi looks good, but rahul chahar looked even better. of this whole squad, I believe that jaiswal and bishnoi can make it to Ind A, and perhaps karthik tyagi. but I am not sold on the rest, and even among the trio I mentioned, it remains to be seen if any are "outstanding talents" who will do "great things" in the senior squads.

Rahul Chahar didn't play u19 wc. And no, Bishnoi has been the most outstanding spinner in our u19 history. Regarding pacers, they have more wickets than last time. All three have bowled well and looked hostile at times.  They just didn't have enough runs to play with yesterday. Batting has disappointed. There has been too much focus on finding technical bats this time and no aggressive batsman was picked. Dhruv jurel is another great find. He is one of the best gloveman you will ever see at this level, at least at u19 level in our history and he can bat too. Second spinner was unimpressive.

He is being picked in LOIs isn't his problem. Blame selectors for that. He has his limitations as an LOI player.

it's not just mavi & nagarkoti. rahul chahar and sundar were also from the same group, and I rate them better than bishnoi and ankolekar respectively. there's no denying the fact that the U19 players from 2016-2018 were exceptionally talented.

Bishnoi outbowled Chahar in VH trophy and Chahar didn't even make it to u19 wc. And sundar in 2016 u19 wc was a batsman.

Same, didn't find anything special in this bunch except Jaiswal. Even Bishnoi won't do much without a leg break. Previous bunch was so good, trust this useless TM to fail to groom them.

All 3 pacers are serious talents, jaiswal, bishnoi and dhruv jurel. At least 6 players to monitor in this batch. Priyam Garg already had a great start to FC cricket but need to wait more for him.

Two ICC finals. Two neighboring countries. Both times India started out the overwhelming favorites and both times India got knocked out.

Which one was more humiliating for you?

You forgot INdia already lost to Pakistan in under-19 final in a terrible way.

"humiliating"?

did you watch the game? Bangladesh team put up a high quality effort in the field to restrict India to a losing total.  There is no "humiliation" here.  The team that played better won the game.

Learn to give credit where its due.

Exactly. They were calm composed than our boys. Didn't get rattled when 6 down. Credit to them they are worthy champs.

How is that a bad thing, he's still smoked the second greatest player ever in finals time & again!

Where did I say it is a bad thing? I want us to be like Nadal who is going to end up with most majors despite not being as talented as the others in GOAT race. I am proud of India's insane home domination, long may it continue.

Yesterday's was more embarrassing. Not because we lost, that was more of a disappointment to not able to keep ourselves composed under pressure.

We completely lost it when one of us try to disregard the flag of another country because we can't acknowledge that the other team was better. Granted there was instigation from opponents, but being abusive is one thing even though nothing glory about it but being disrespectful of the flag is downright humiliating to our own society and culture.

No team has a 100% win record. Any team that does well on the day can win in LOIs. How is losing in sports humiliating? :hmmmm2:

There definitely seems a pattern here

Men T20 WC 2014:Final Lost

Men WC 2015: Semi Final Lost

Men T20 WC 2016: Semi Final Lost

U19 WC 2016: Final Lost

Champions Trophy 2017: Final Lost

Men WC 2019: Semi Final Lost

U19 WC 2020: Final Lost

In between we won one u19. But for a really good team which reached all those finals and semi finals imagine losing all of them. That's 7 ICC trophies we lost,  4 in finals

That is a good list. Can’t comment on U19 as I do not recall them. One of the factors to note is that as a team advances, it is playing other top / inform teams (which have optimized their game in the tournament by that point). Mainly competing (or hoping to) based on “talent” is not always enough as you need to support the talent pool with optimum strategies/tactics including selection.  If we go over the list, we will find blunders (including individual’s inabilities to read the game) such as

a) 2014 T20 WC Final: Yuvraj was probably in the squad because Dhoni felt Ind needed Yuvraj to win a WC. His poor form got exposed in the final and he did not show the game sense to get off strike or out

b) 2015 WC SF: Lost to probably a better team which came to the table with its A game

c) 2016 WC SF: Inability to understand the par score vs. a power hitting side like WI. Rahane’s selection. Shastri was the coach iirc who appears to go by what the popular public demand  is - dropping Dhawan but it was a move done late iirc

d) 2017 CTC F (though not a WC): Again selection and strategic blunders including not batting first and playing the spinner over a fast bowler

e) 2019 WC SF: Lost to a calculating and smart opponent. Squad selection was questionable even before the tournament

Given that we do not plan/prepare as much as we would like to. Our best bets have been when we have faced other subcon teams (as they too play and prepare like Ind) and less fancied sides (like Kenya in 2003 WC SF)! To turn the tides, we have to not make strategic blunders against teams that bring their A+ game. Even in this U19 WC F, BD brought its A+ game to the table and blew the team away, which was unable to cope with it (or may be even surprised by it) esp. when batting

To summarize: Need to bring our A+ game including strategy and its execution. Being the stronger team on paper is not always enough (and Ind learned that when it won its first world title by beating the mighty WI in ‘83)

PS quickly typed this on phone so pardon Incomprehensible prose if any
