5 day cricket will never get interest back.

It will. People will get tired of t20 leagues and would like to see something different from time to time. T20s will continue and do great but people would like to watch something different all the time. Such high contest will automatically bring interest. Bet India vs Pakistan series in say 2024-2025 happening will bring loads of crowd. Stimulating effect is required and sometimes a major series does that. You got to market the opportunity.i

Forget India vs Pak also and imagine a world cricket test chanpionship final happens to be in India in the future between India and Australia in Mumbai or Kolkata, Delhi or Chennia, people will turn up in big numbers and would be watching big time in big numbers. This can stipulate into more interest in test cricket.

Day-night matches will definitely increase interest in test cricket.

Saw it last year too.  Leaving aside the novelty factor, people got the time to watch for a few hours on TV, after coming back from work. This does not happen during day matches.

Pink ball cricket has to be on top priority for BCCI to get interest back into test cricket.

There are many retired people who have time to watch test matches during daytime. It's just not dependent on the people who go to office and hence cannot watch cricket. The dependency is on "Working " as well as on "Retired" people.

I don't know about what format this generation (the one that are still working) likes. However, it is clear that they are trying to maximize the television audience by targeting the "Working" as well as "Retired" fans who love cricket. Strategically it is the correct move. At least it will increase the audience for a session if not more. The product needs to be modified and that's what they are gradually doing. Cricketers will have to adapt themselves to field well under artificial lights. IPL viewership is very good because of Day and Night match timings. So there is hope that Day and Night test matches will improve audience and help bring more revenue.

If there won't be crowds, D/N test has no purpose. Test fans will somehow find a way to watch a few passages, timing notwithstanding. I don't buy this 'coming after work' and watching.

They are just trying to increase the profitability by means of increasing television viewership and thus higher revenue and profitability realized due to boost in broadcasting rights.
