sage Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Quote The veteran off-spinner said that the stylish Mumbai batsman has now transformed into a primary match-winner for his franchise. “There is no doubt that Suryakumar Yadav has transformed himself from being the game-changer to a primary match-winner for the Mumbai Indians. He had taken up a lot of responsibility of their batting,” Harbhajan Singh told Star Sports. “And it is not that he plays at the strike rate of 100, if you see his strike rate, he starts hitting from the first ball itself.” Harbhajan further claims that Suryakumar has all the type of shots under his belt, which makes him the Indian AB de Villiers, who is fondly known as Mr 360 degree. “It is difficult to stop him as he has all types of shots. He hits overs covers, plays the sweep also well, plays spin very well, plays fast bowling amazingly well. He is the Indian AB de Villiers,” said the veteran off-spinner. Despite his stellar show in IPL 2020, uncapped Suryakumar was ignored from India’s senior team squad for Australia tour. However, Harbhajan feels the MI batsman is not far away to get selected for the Indian team. “I feel he should have been selected for the Indian team. It didn’t happen but he is not far away. He is an unbelievable player. The sort of batting Suryakumar Yadav has done, he has attracted everyone towards him.” https://www.india.com/sports/suryakumar-yadav-is-indian-ab-de-villiers-harbhajan-singh-hails-mumbai-indians-batsman-4209558/ One legend recognising another. Ankit_sharma03 Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 just becoz someone plays 360 deg doesnt make him ABDV, by that logic unadkat is starc Norman 1

OpeningBatsman Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Okay now I'm confused. So is it dhawan or is it sky.. Who's the real abd speedheat, maniac and BacktoCricaddict 3
Lone Wolf Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Ab is a freak.. Buttler is only one probably closest to him at the moment to have both innovation & power game. nevada 1
nevada Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Scotch vs Desi Daru. Sgattick10, speedheat and maniac 3
jf1gp_1 Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 I dont even remember him doing anything worth noting during last NZ A tour. nevada 1
Sandeep99 Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Zyada hogaya.. SKY is a good player playing for an excellent team run by a monster billionaire. Mayank Agarwal or Shubman Gill can play the same role and maybe do a but better as well if they played for Ambani.
BacktoCricaddict Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 ABdV may be a more talented cricketer, but he won't always be there to protect you from the evils of the world. SKY, OTOH: nevada and raki05 2
maniac Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) Firstly controversial statement but SKY at best is a journeyman cricketer. That is not a negative word. That means he is a competent cricketer who can fit certain roles and may be one of those who can play as a back up in case of emergency. I know it is controversial especially after the stellar season he had this year. Guys like AB are special Prodigies who probably never had a problem getting into any side. I am sure the moment they stepped on to any trials at any level they were unanimously picked because clearly they are a cut above the rest. There is a same pattern that is happening here which we saw with Kedar Jadhav who year after year was performing in domestics and doing well In the IPL, had stellar strike rate and average but clearly you could tell he is not cut out to have a great international career. You can revisit my arguments with his early supporters like @rahulrulezz and @TNAmarkFromIndia. International cricket is a different ball game. Good luck to sky but there is no injustice done to him, he just wasn’t a standout enough in a highly competitive domestic circuit but now yes he has the eyeballs on him and he has earned it. Let’s see what he can do. Comparing him with an ATG is an insult to him, the ATG and the intelligence of the hardcore fans. Good luck to him though. Seems like a good guy so I am rooting for him but my assessment was for his cricketing ability. Edited November 16, 2020 by maniac

Ankit_sharma03 Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 2 batsman who has the range of ABDV in India is Rohit n KL and both arent successful in test cricket. One starts slow and other gets slow in between and thats how good ABDV is who pretty much ticked every box . ABDV is an ATG in at-least 2 formats , his international t20 record isnt great but around the leagues he is an ATG
maniac Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Just now, Ankit_sharma03 said: same role as ABDV ? When you train batsmen, no One is trained to be a no.6. Sure some batsmen adapt to one position better than the others but it goes both ways, sachin went from Opening to no.4 with no issues, obviously it was stupid not to bat your best bat at no.1 that’s a TM decision. Simple in India you have to stand out heads and shoulders to get noticed that is the harsh truth. A batsmen can score 30(25) innings 20 times in a row and finish games, that is not going to get them a Cap. Let us say for example someone has a high score of 180+ in list A and average or 40+ and a great strike rate and has finished those 20 games, he will get attention or if he is hitting 3-4 6’s in every game or something that makes you standout over others. What if you pick a guy whose role is to play 20-30 runs and he finds himself in a 80-5 type situation? You pick a guy who plays in all positions very much like AB who can hit a 30 ball 100 but can also play out the entire day to draw a test match.
Majestic Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) The thing with AB is that he is probably the most versatile batsmen the game has ever seen, it's not just about the 360° shots he plays but he can bat as per the situation and in all formats of the game. SKY has shown his calibre and that his shot hitting range is all-round but that does not make him an ABDV. You have to be excellent in all three formats of the game and be able to bat as per the situation in each of the formats. I think the closest to AB is probably Jos Buttler and even Jos is nowhere as good as him although he has a WC win to his name. Edited November 16, 2020 by Majestic speedheat 1

That is often an ignored dimension to his game. AB was a middle order mainstay where as Butler is required to play rebuilding/attacking knocks at 6 in tests which is a thankless role so will Always look like he has mediocre test stats but once in a while he can play a miraculous knock like he did vs Pak in the first test. AB is obviously on a different level all together. He is an ATG of the game already.

He is very poor vs spin. I think he should play as specialist batsmen. Actually, when AB was young, he also was known more for playing attacking knocks at 6 and maximize the hard work done by Kallis, Smith or Amla. I think it was in second half that he started playing a lot more valuable knocks and batted at 4 or 5 and played some top knocks as well. Maybe Buttler has started doing that now but his stats are far more skewed. Edited November 16, 2020 by Majestic

But, to be fair, SKY has not even been given an opportunity to show his calibre at the international level, even in the format in which he has been consistently good. He may not become an ABdV, but he must be given an opportunity to prove what he truly is or is not. Sad, really.
