Saha will be prioritised by TM if he is fit.

No he won't and it doesnt make any sense. Pant was great as kepper too in that series,.his keeping against pace is pretty good

Kuldeep in a D/N test can be a double edged sword.  Either he will run through Aussies as variations are tougher to pick under lights or he'll go for plenty.  Don't know which Kuldeep will turn up.  Either way it'll be a bold call.

We have to go for it. Either win or bust. That should be the attitude of Kohli. We will see if he is really aggressive in his team selection rather than be aggressive in talk alone. The first test is the most important test in an away series. Winning and losing a series is highly dependent on the first test. Hopefully we don't lay an egg on that one.

Thats fair enough. However there is a 50% chance of Saha not being fit by first test

Gill will not be selected for T2  unless we lose pretty badly in T1. Mayank is a certain. as opener, we have Rohit, Rahul, Shaw and Gill, which is one too many. If KL does well in LOIs and as VC nominated, he might get selected over others for T1

Gill, Mayank, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Pant, Jadeja, Kuldeep, Bumrah, Shami, Siraj

Enough of Ashwin in away series. Need to back Kuldeep who has a 5-er in his last test in Australia (though vs a weaker Australian batting)

two spinners in australia, that too in a D/N match? are you expecting them to bat for 6 sessions?

Except Sydney, I doubt we will see two spinners, in either Aussie or Indian squad.

Why is Vihari getting a raw deal. He should be sure fire starter for all tests. He can bowl few overs and adds length to this weak batting lineup.

True.  He hasn't done anything to lose his place.  OTOH, he is on a bit of short leash and needs to play a daddy knock or two.  Hope there won't be a need for him to be a patchwork opener again.

Kohli

Rahane

Vihari

Pant

Jadeja

Shami

Bumrah

Siraj / Saini

I would start Gill over Shaw given how bad Shaw looked in IPL. Siraj over Saini in first test.

I think it would be a mistake to let IPL performances affect test selections.  In his last test outing (C'Church), Shaw made a brisk 50+ score.  He needs to be backed.

You may have a point. To me personally Gill looks more compact player who will succeed in tests than Shaw.

With Indian Team in turmoil, element of surprise is required:

1st Test:

M Agarwal

P Shaw

S Gill

V Kohli

KL Rahul

S Iyer

R Pant

K Yadav

M Shami

J Bumrah

U Yadav

Only Change after 1st V Kohli for an extra spinner R Ashwin or R Jadeja bat no 7. Make KL Rahul captain.

A Rahane (Mediocre for years, a yes man)

C Pujara (The same tactics as last tour won't work, not very inspiring, a yes man)

H Vihari (Passenger, a yes man)

Much better if Rohit can make it for 3rd test but I doubt it will happen. A lot dirty politics going on. Indian requires a new captain and coach.

India is going to lose anyway, better to lose with young gifted stroke players like Gill, Shaw and Iyer.

Rahul is not even a certain starter in playing 11 for first test. He was dropped from playing 11 in Australia for last few tests. He may make comeback if other players are unavailable or injured, but I  don't see him being given captaincy as he isn't a certianity in the test format yet.

My preferred 11 for the first test

1. Mayank

2. Rohit / Shaw

3. Pujara

4. Kohli

5. Gill

6. Rahane ( only because he will be the next captain )

7. Pant

8. Jadeja

9. Saini

10. Shami

11. Bumrah

Yes, IPL should not be the criteria to select or drop a player from test , especially who has had a great start to test career.

Its been confirmed 100% that Rohit and Ishant will miss out the first two tests and 70% chance they will miss the entire series
