zen Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 (edited) A thread on what is being discussed sporadically on other threads: More and more people including experts think that India is playing outdated cricket in LOIs. Does Ind need to change its brand of cricket? In a transition phase, the team may go through a tough phase, therefore is the system willing to back the players? With no long term development plan in place, has Ind cricket turned in the type of companies that focus on the current quarter only? Edited December 4, 2020 by zen Suhaan 1
coffee_rules Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 The palang tod crowd has to compromise with the sambhalke khelna crowd. Yes in T20 we need the palang tod players, but ODIs is middle ground.. mix of the two sandeep and Gollum 2
tweaker Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Some young players ie Rishabh Pant,Ishan Kishan, Surya Kumar Yadav, Samson, Tewatia,S Gopal,Prasidh, should get a look in for some odi. Rahul should be relieved of wicketkeeping duties and one among Pant or Kishan should be developed as wicket keeper batsman Mosher, Stan AF, maniac and 1 other 4
zen Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 (edited) The idea is to have some kind of framework starting with T20s and then brought into ODIs: The batsmen to seek minimum 1 boundary option per over Supported by acceptable batting depth till #8 (which means room only for 3 specialist bowlers, i.e. if they cannot bat like Bumrah, Natarajan, etc.) More impact players Batsmen ideally good against both bounce and spin Fielding quality given importance Old hands phased out PS therefore, an T20 11 can look like: KL - regular batsman (good fielder) Samson - impact player (excellent fielder) SKY - impact player (very good fielder) Kishan - impact player (very good fielder) SDP (c) - impact player (excellent fielder) Jadeja - an inform impact player (excellent fielder) .... if not in form, can be replaced by a bowler (Chahal, R Chahar, etc.), AR (Krunal, Axar, Samad, etc.) or batsman (Pant for e.g.) Tewatia - impact player (very good fielder) Sundar - bowling + acceptable batting (needs to improve fielding) 3 specialist bowlers: Bumrah, Natrajan & 3rd pacer since the line up as 3 spinners (nice if the 3rd pacer could bat a bit too) Edited December 4, 2020 by zen
Ankit_sharma03 Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Do isnt even the word, it shud be Asap re work their whole game
maniac Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 You can’t have a team full of hacks. 24 runs 2 overs batting with tail. Rohit or Kohli at the crease or even Rahul Pandya or Samson or Tewatiya or Jadeja or Kishan or Pant or some other darling at the crease Worlds best bowling line up (whomever it may be according you) bowling. You have to put big money with a gun to your head and you have to predict who will finish the game if they had the same scenario out of 10 times. Think about that and you have your answer.

nevada Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 It's very simple. Keep looking for runs through out the innings, avoiding quietly tapping hittable deliveries. Our batters are more worried about preserving their wicket than scoring runs and this needs to change. Mosher and express bowling 2
Vilander Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Very cliche..this brand that brand of cricket. Cricket is not some t shirt and chaddi. Lulz. Wtf is brand of cricket.
Majestic Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Rohit Rahul Kohli Samson SKY Pandya Jadeja/Tewatia

Rohit & Virat playing since 2008 . But no trophies to show . Plus Rohit & Virat seem to have passed their peak . ( We may not see 2016 Virat again) . In any case all 3 are part of the team . Its only about batsmen 2 batsmen spot which require urgent change .
Bhoot Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Oh yes and when they go for their shots and smtimes get out like in the first odi, the resident managers here will shout oh this is not how we should play, why go for that shot we already got 10 runs this over. There is no pleasing the Alex Fegusans in ICF.
Serpico Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Rahul is capable of delivering more impactful innings in ODIs. Someone should talk to him and define his role clearly when coming at 5, set him the target of 100+ SR

prudent_kreeda Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Another very critical area not much talked about is the running between the wickets . Would be very interesting to check number of 2 & 3s indian batsmen take other than Virat and the number of dot balls per innings Apart from Kohli and may be Jadeja , no one take 2 runs even if the ball is fielded near boundary after a chase by the fielder . and culprits are youngsters like KL, Pant, even Gill apart from Shikhar , Rohit . This must be costing at least 10+ runs per innings . Add to this shots played swiftly to inner circle fielders .After 10 overs there is always a gap on the onside where one can tap the ball and get a single . At least 20 runs per innings can be added to total without much risk taking if this aspect is addressed.

I see lot more technical deficiency with manish n iyer then pandya, samson, pant or jaddu all of can smoke spin and play short ball well if anything its jaddu , pandya who have rescued us in last so many times and pant batted better then these so called specailist in semi . Only diff is they play high risk game and those guys cant and which cost us 8 out of 10 games mostly. On a bowler friendly day their technical deficiencies wud also be exposed

Are you trying to build a world class team that can and will beat any and all opponents regardless of conditions? Or are you trying to 'manage' a business that maximizes your stardom and lengthens your earnings potential to the maximum extent possible, with minimum risk, but at the same time, win enough so that you don't face a backlash of criticism? Its a tough tightrope to walk. Not all can manage it. Very few possess the unique talent to get it right. And even fewer do it Wrogn.

Naturally if you want to be a contender for major titles , need to aspire for these new benchmarks , else you can only aspire to be in top 4 but no silverware to show . Thus it is so stupid clear , you need to embrace an approach to meet new benchmark . This transition can also be planned . 1. Do not attempt drastic change till WC21 but start post WC21 . 2. Focus on controlled aggressive mindset ( not going after every ball , but have the goal of scoring a boundary every over on an average ) as the goal 3. Pick those guys who have the attacking ability against pace as well spin. 4. One opener should go hard . 5. Ensure better game against spin . Will have to adapt and master shots which can beat field settings - 6. Minimise dot balls . Could be no more than 30 -35 dot balls on a good pitch . 7. Better running between the wickets , maximise 2s . 8. set a benchmark of batting strike rate for T20s ( Say 130+) and 50 Overs ( say 115+) which is the minimum to be achieved . The coach should assess player's target achievement after each match on points 2 ,6 & 8 not on averages or total runs scored. Everything won.t fall in place right away as you will have to pick 2-3 new guys who are aggressive but without maturity and better shot selection, there will be up & downs . But it will make each of players to aspire to goal if he wants to get selected and in turn result in very focused practice towards that . Since we do not have a bowling attack that will defend /restrict opposition below 300 at least 8 times out of 10 , India will have to change . WRITING IS ON THE WALL, IF INDIAN CRICKET Management is willing to look at it , else perish.
