Agree and I am not blaming the IPL, it has its pros and cons, even in 1st ODI in the current tour, we started our chase like we are chasing 290 in 20 overs, T20 cricket has its own repurcussions not only the individual but the entire team got sucked into it. My point is we might end up losing some individual talents, who might not develop to their full potential as a test cricketer, due to early exposure to the richness of  IPL.

Agree.

Just the times we live in.

I myself am a fan of intnl cricket first n then IPL.

We have to find a balance to fit in both or we could see more WI like scenario.

Both Gill & Shaw have done themselves no favours by this.  Gill especially was gone on a golden duck.  I think Ruturaj & Paddikal will get ahead of these mentally weak players in no time.

Clearly Indian TM see Rishabh Pant as backup option of Saha as he has failed to proved himself in longer format as well. But I expected Saini to be in the XI.

None of the T20I squad members can play this match.

So, Saini, Mayank etc. are not playing.

Calling Gill mentally weak after one innings? He deserves a proper run for India even if he scores 3-4 such ducks.

Shaw's problem is his fitness. The day he sorts it, he will be a great international batsman

Don't take these 13 vs 13 games too seriously, not even FC.

Looks like India for a change are playing it as a 11 vs 11 with Pant on bench (not entirely unexpected). I wouldn't be surprised if the next practice match is 13 vs 13

37 yo Saha (who was recently injured) over youngster Pant. Saha will avg in the 20s and a ceiling of 50....Pant will avg in late 30s or 40s and ceiling of 150. Unless his fitness is so bad that he can't keep for 90 overs/day I see no reason why they are doing this to the southpaw. Pant has to start in the D/N test and at MCG, if he isn't up to the mark they can always make the change in last 2 tests. For all the talks of aggression/intent this TM will always take a safety first approach.

Future Star

Look at how Australia markets its cricketers ... even unproven ones like Green.

And we lack confidence to market our top international performers like Bumrah, Shami, Mayank etc.

How many times do we hear that Bumrah averages 20 in both tests and T20s. ?

Or Shami has one of the lowest bowling averages in tests in India ? ... Which is very creditable for a fast bowler.

Or Mayank averages 57+ in test cricket so far, with 2 double centuries already ?  But we keep hearing about Marnus Labu...whatshisname, who too is doing very well in his short test career.
