Can Sundar be tried in tests?

Another out of the box thinking exercise .... As we know, Lyon is successful in tests despite not bowling in spin friendly conditions relatively speaking. A bowler who has the potential to bowl with the discipline close to Lyon's is Sundar, who can attack with immaculate lines and maybe get some bounce too 

 

Today's question: Can Sundar be tried/developed in tests esp. in SENA/overseas?

As what? A #6 batsman? or a specialist bowler? If the latter, he has to further develop as a potent wicket-taker.

 

I like Sundar's potential but he has a long way to go.

A spinner needs to turn the ball, don’t think I have ever seen Sundar do it. He is a smart bowler who depends on variations and bowling defensive lengths. 
 

As a batsman don’t know, can’t judge on T20 but he is highly rated for his batting talent.

I like Sundar's potential but he has a long way to go.

 

Develop him mainly as a bowler to replace a specialist spinner esp. in SENA/overseas as he has the potential to bowl w/ Lyon's discipline and also get bounce .... though his batting can be handy as well in the lower order

If he has to get in he can only as batting all rounder, he doesnt have tools as test bowler specially overseas. 

As batting all rounder he ll compete with many with batsman and even shankar n pandya

Sundar is not a specialist test bowler material.

 

He needs to become a No.6 type batsman if he has to play tests.

 

But no way is he a top 6 batsman material for Team India in tests, as of today.

we have better slow medium pacers, so no

Doesn't turn, doesn't have loop hence no dip....Lyon has loop+late dip+bounce (overspin)+turn+accuracy+patience+stamina and most importantly no white ball distraction.

Good pick. He is not as bad as some say. Not a Frontline bowler but you need your 5th bowler to bat well. Good pick given the squad.

He is at best a potential replacement for Vihari if he bats well. That too in Indian conditions. He cannot be a first choice of even second choice spinner for sure

He bowled alright under the circumstances. If he can pick one more wicket and add 30 runs with the bat he can be considered good pick for now

Looks good. In India, he will be more useful. hasnt done that bad on debut at the gabba. picked the wicket of smith and kept one end tight. has the ability to land the ball on a dime day in and day out. Good potential but needs work on test matches. Also bats decently.

Sundar seems to have a decent technique and handles fast bowling pretty well.. I wont be surprised if he scores a 50 if conditions favor him
