The Realist
Probably the worst tail in the world. 6 down and the other team's openers can start getting ready to bat, its that bad. Capitulated from 233/6 to 244ao - 11/4. Not a one-off as seems to happen on a fairly regular basis. So many coaches and if anything the batting of the tail has regressed - Shami is now a certified no.11 Either improve the batting of your bowlers or only pick those in the future that know how to hold a bat. Is there any redemption for this tour? Link to comment
raki05
This is perennial problem , i still remember famous 99 test we have 17 to chase while tendulkar got out and we lost it be 13 runs. Also against aus while Michael Clark took 6/1 and we lost in the last over of the match. express bowling, Rightarmfast, maniac and 1 other 2 2 Link to comment

Gollum
Sure but not a pressing issue. First batsmen need to do much better, more focus on them please. These are our best bowlers, more often than not will pick 20 wickets anywhere in the world, keep you in the game like we saw today, make up for sins of batsmen like we saw today. Replacing them for batting ability is out of the question. Once Pant and Jaddu come back bottom 5 will add more runs. Bumrah has clearly worked on his batting, he should try to emulate Ishant who has occupied the crease so many times helping the team's cause. Shami and Umesh, they go for it don't they, low % but fun, I don't expect much. Ashwin has declined, problem is more mental than technique related for him. Even when he looks good, hits a few lovely boundaries like top order batsman and then needlessly throws his wicket. Reports say he is spending a lot of time batting in the nets, even more than our top order guys, I think he realizes he can do much better. Hope the efforts bear fruit in coming months. Jaddu, Pant will come back soon. For home tests no issue. Next away tour is in Eng and hope by then Ishant, Bhuvi too get 100% fit. Link to comment
Gollum
Not 233/6 to 244 ao 206/6 to 244 ao against new ball, 7 overs of that under lights. Not ideal but not a disaster. Give brand new ball to our guys the last 7 overs against their lower order and even we will make them dance, max 50 runs, we added 38. Remember their tail scored against soft Kookaburra without pronounced seam, a feature of that ball after 1st 20-25 overs. Link to comment
Bigg Brother
They are front line bowlers and they are doing that well. I agree they should be taught to hang around when one specialist batsman from lower middler order is battling. But for that our lower middle order bat should take responsibility. We cant expect our tailenders to bat like Starc & Cummins. Ishant is handy with bat can hang around, Shami and Yadav just know to throw at everything. Ashwin has definitely regressed.. India won that test where Clarke took 6/9 but the test you are talking is Sydney 2008 where Clarke took 3 wicket in last over to seal the match for them. raki05 1 Link to comment
OpeningBatsman
Every teams tail plays well at home. Even our umesh shami ashwin scored 30s n 20s regularly at home. Link to comment

They were 188-3 on same pitch. Tail doesn't need to batsmen, but they are reason for 50 runs difference. Our lower order scored 50 runs less, theirs scored 50 extra. That's 100 runs difference. Vk1
This was ONE area that Shastri could have improved. He was a fighter who had batted through 11 to 1. Perhaps lot to expect from the freeloader Link to comment
kubrickian
They dont have the defence to play against short deliveries. Once they face a few bouncers, they usually slog and get out. This has always been the case with the tail in Indian team, especially overseas. Once 6th wicket falls, you can expect the tail to fold within 10 runs unless there is a set batsman who can farm the strike and score. Link to comment
R!TTER
I'd argue it's the opposite, except Bumrah (I've not seen Siraj or Saini bat) virtually all of them have a decent defense but none have good scoring shots. The likes of Cummins, Starc & even Lyon are miles ahead here - that's why they also do well in LO down the order. Link to comment

No, defence means also ducking under short pitched deliveries and also riding the bounce sometimes which they dont have. So they usually get hit on the body and cant hang out for too long. Yes, they also lack scoring shots. Link to comment
kubrickian
Also, I dont understand why Indian fans moan about inability to remove the tail easily. Cummins, Starc and even Lyon to a certain extent in Australia and even tail in SA, Eng are pretty handy batters who can all contribute. The problem is because Indian tail folds very quickly, we expect the same to happen to other sides especially Aus, Eng, NZ, SA Cricketics 1 Link to comment
