Time and again that 100 ball 20 runs from Pujara seems to be difference

Just no one seems to get this simple fact here.

There's simply no guarantee that you will face 100 balls every innings and you will start scoring after that. Make the most of the scoring when you face man. Today he scored a duck and he got out within what 10 balls???

Don’t over estimate, out of 11 guys in a test team, if one guy bats like that its fine. Its a test match.. he scores more than others anyway.

Rest other guys are shyt, we need to worry about them than worrying about Pujara right now.

This thread is the brain fart reaction after a collapse. Focus on them openers and other middle and lower order.

Played out like a session by himself in the first inning. If not for that, Ind would not have even reached 200 in that inning

Avg 49 in tests

100 ball 20 isnt the full job, after that as main batsman u have to put runs on board as well

It's relatively easier after that.

That is an absolute pathetic strategy.

India should not be investing in players like Pujara, Rahane and Vihari.

Stroke makers are the way to go. Even in a dodgy pitch they will atleast get some sort of total.

Play Gill and KL Rahul. Also Rohit from 3rd Test.

All 3 are different types of batsmen.

Immense respect for Pujara, when he performed last time he assured India won the tour. We don't know how long his career will last but he has a legacy of his own in Indian cricket.

He would be extremely disappointed to lose his wkt against Lyon in first innings. He was well set for a big score.

The issue is this could be a team strategy, in England & even more in NZ players who could do better (stroke making) than Pujara I think were asked to shelve their shots. This may have worked back in the day, but with DRS & looser techniques you back your best stroke makers to play their "natural game" not reckless strokes though. the bigger issue is with IPL these guys don't know when to stop playing these shots. It's absolutely clear to me that good/decent IPL strategies will simply not work in tests & players making livelihood there will fail more often than not away from home! There are exceptions of course like Butler, Stokes, Rabada but apart from Kohli can't remember any IPL (batting) star doing exceptionally well for India in tests.

We will never be talking about this if we had players other than him scoring runs.

Reality is that Indian cricket has always had batsman like this. Dravid too was similar, or Pujara modeled his game like Dravid. It has worked fine for Indian cricket uptill now. When we collapse like this, its because of other reasons and not because Dravid or Pujara is playing slow. You can’t have flashy players all line up. They will get out easily even on flat tracks of India. Pujara will play for India and should continue to play. Lets fix other positions before worrying about Pujara.

I'm not saying we collapse due to Pujara but our strategy of late seems to be to shut shop when the ball's doing something or we lose quick wickets. There's a time & place for that, using it everywhere all the time is brain dead IMO.

Pujara out early, Ind all out 36.  If Pujara does not hit form, Ind could be in even bigger trouble. Matches would over in 3-4 days :dontknow:

I am not a big fan of Pujara's approach but he is not forcing others to ape his modus operandi. Others can play their natural game. Pujara has his style & obviously he cannot change it now. May be last of the Mohicans.

No.  It is not necessarily easier after that.  Imagine if pujara plays 100 balls, but a wicket or two falls at the other end, then Pujara will also not be able to score freely and get out. Eventually leading to nothing.

Yes that is an issue, the only time he overcomes that is when he scores hundreds & usually big hundreds. He accelerates a lot after that. He hasn't scored too many big hundreds away, this is something which is like damned if you do & *ed if you don't.
