Post that MCG special (100 after 6 years gap in SENA)

Pity he couldn't use the momentum of MCG to start a purple patch. Has been the story of his career, sadly. Decent bloke, but runs are runs.

How about Pujara who is averaging 25 in current WTC..  Why is he going under the radar?   Rahane has been poor but Pujara has been beyond poor in fact horrible..

Rahane? The batsman? He bats or? Never heard of him.

Good captain. **** batsman. Not good enough. Needs to be replaced with Mayank who is actually a good player of 'spin' and pace. Just struggling with form due to focus on T20.

Draft Shaw in for the middle order. Will be way better than this dweeb.

We all agree that he sucks in Indian conditions and is specifically chosen for exploits in RSA, Eng, Aus, NZ. He had a good set of performances in the 2013-15 cycle which earned him some leeway. His last 100 was in 2014 MCG, didn't do much in 2015 SCG test as well.

Anyway here are the scores:

2018 Jo'burg: 9, 48 (did well, 48 worth much more)

2018 Birmingham: 15, 2 (missed opportunity to win us the game)

2018 Lord's: 18, 13

2018 Nottingham: 81, 29

2018 Southampton: 11, 51 (another missed opportunity)

2018 Oval: 0, 37

2018 Adelaide: 13, 70

2018 Perth: 51, 30

2018 Melbourne: 34, 1

2019 Sydney: 18, DNB

2020 Wellington: 46, 29

2020 Christchurch: 7, 9 (missed opportunity, one of the most cowardly displays of batting against Wagner)

2020 Adelaide: 42, 0 (ran out well set Kohli and was dismissed soon after, missed opportunity)

13 tests, 25 innings, continuous run

Returns: 664 runs, avg 26.56, SR 42.13, 0 100, 4 50s, HS 81 (and people mock Pant despite his 2 100s in Eng/Aus )

1/3rd of his innings are single digit scores, not one score above 81, manages a 50 every 6th innings!!!!.

Gets easiest batting conditions at #5, when ball is older/softer and 30-40 overs before opponents take second new ball.

For someone who is a liability at home, who offers no secondary skill, whose slip catching has gone to dogs, timid personality with no mental strength. How is this guy a national captain? Even Bangladesh won't have such a guy in the team, forget as skipper.

Ok let us forget his India numbers since we all agree that he is abysmal in SC conditions, and among the worst ever Indian MO batsman at home.

After that 100 at MCG (first in 6 years in SENA) what has SENA specialist done?

SCG: 22, 4

Gabba: 37, 24

WTC F: 49, 15

Trent Bridge: 5, DNB

Lord's: 1

8 innings, 157 runs, not one 50!!!!

When will the torture end? Hasn't been dropped once since the 2017 RSA tests.

Made his debut almost 2 years after Ashwin, 4-5 months after Jaddu...still will play 100 tests before them I guess. What makes him undroppable? Jaddu, Ashwin, our quicks, they have been the engine behind our test success yet keep getting dropped every 2nd or 3rd match. No accountability from our senior batsmen? Chalo at least Kohli had a few phenomenal years in between, Pujara was our main batsman at home plus a big series in Australia. Rahane the weakest link.

It's absolutely crystal clear that the Mumbai lobby strongly back this Rahane & that's why he has survived for so long & will continue to do so.

Before the Eng tour, Rahane, a SENA specialist, only had 1 50+ score in 12 innings in SENA. Now 1 in 14 iirc ( haven’t followed Eng series much except looking at the scorecard once a day)

what Hahane, Chepu and Rat did years and years ago does not mean anything much. and top scoring a few times in SENA wins is not good enough. if you look at the list you posted, only VVS was a superb test batsman and Vengsarkar was nearly as good. but both wadekar and rahane are nowhere near as good.
