Congrats Ashwin, completes 200 dismissals of left-handers in test cricket

Ashwin became the bowler to dismiss most left-handers in test cricket when he dismissed Josh Hazlewood for 10 to help India bowl out Australia for 200 in their second innings. Notably, Hazlewood was the 192nd left-hander to be dismissed by Ashwin which is the most by any bowler in the history of Test cricket.

 

 

Surpasses Murali who dismissed 191 LHBs in his 133 tests, 191 out of 800 total wickets

 

Ashwin 192 LHB dismissals in 73 tests. 192/375, a whooping 51.2%

2 legends Chanderpaul and Sangakkara dismissed 4/4 times...100% success rate 

 

If he plays for another 3 years he can take that number to around 250 which will be almost impossible to break @Ankit_sharma03

Ashwin to me is actually the unsung hero of this test match.

 

Every over he bowled looked like he was going to get a wicket. Went for less than 2rpo, had dropped catches, ball lobbing into safe zones, had lots of “umpires calls” and a lot of  appeals that looked out in real time.

 

Also the ball he bowled to Labu set the tone for the 2nd innings.

 

Super impressive but then again his real test begins in the next 2 games. Not because of lack of skill because we already know he is

a great bowler but his Achilles heel  which is his fitness and endurance to last an entire test series.

 

His batting has totally gone down though but who cares as he is one of our strike bowlers.

In terms of his batting he was playing well in Melbourne and he got out trying to up the score. Couldnt risk Umesh or Bumrah being hit by bouncers from Starc. Also India scored 50 runs in the session inspite of Rahanes run out. Thats where we got ahead. 50 runs was huge in the context of the game. Imagine if we lost 5 wickets for 10/12 runs. Aus would have been buyoant and could have given us a 150 target which would have been impossible to chase

he actually has turned the series by messing with smith's head. When smith took a single off him to run off at other end u knw he is really not liking his bowling. Opp gets worried when their best batsman looks clueless

I hope Smith remains runless in the remaining games also! It's been such a relief to escape any damage from him this far.

SL didn't tour India between 2010 and 2017 for red ball cricket, strange since they had a kickass side till 2015, especially in SC conditions.

 

Peak Sanga vs Ashwin in 2013-14 would have been amazing, robbed of a great contest there. Sanga was in incredible form those years, and the way he violated Chuckmal both home and away 

 

We did see the contest play out in ODIs, T20s and was always fun, but test cricket was their strongest suit and it is a pity we didn't play SL all those years.

It was Ashwin who laid the marker for bowlers on first day of the first test.He has been brilliant, this is the best he has looked after 2016-17.

strange, in the time period you mentioned it felt like we played SL in some random series every other month. May be it was just White ball cricket. Anyway personally don’t miss watching an Ind-SL test match.

Not now but when they had Dilshan, Karunaratne, Sanga, Mahela, Mathews, Samaraweera, Herath, Kulasekara in early 2010s. Really good test side and even outside Asia, 1-1 in Eng across 2 tours (5 tests total: 2011, 2014) incl a series win, hard fought 1-2 loss in RSA......
