Indian lower order batsmen against pace scares me and it is not just their run scoring ability

Gabba is supposed to be the fastest pitch in Australia. The way our lower order batsmen play short bowling especially when it is being constantly delivered body line at 140+ I am very worried.

 

Dont see the backups/ newbies handling Aussie fast bowlers on spicy Gabba pitch.
 

I can sense Ashwin is carrying a niggle. Looks slower than even usual. Jadeja and Pant are out already. Rahul is not available and the rest we already know about.

At this point I am not even worried about them  getting out, I just can’t watch them get hurt. Yesterday, I was watching Siraj bat against Starc and Cummins like it was a horror movie where you expect a jump scare.

 

I will take the MCG win and no more injuries and a respectable “cake-cutting” worthy loss like our padosis.

This is the most manhoos tour I have seen even 4-0s in 2011-12 were not this depressing.

Captain set the tone by playing one game and running away in between. If he needed to be with his wife he should not have come on this tour. What is the point of playing 1 test then going back ?

He isn’t mentally tough. Wont go past 30-40 however hard he tries.

I too think he is a softie..  Look at Pandya all his antics aside..  He has immense confidence in his skills.  Pant has talent but needs to toughen up a bit..  I don't like his body language.   But it may also be the reason that he isn't sure of his spot in the team.

Gabba isn't the fastest, it's WACA & probably the new Perth stadium as well. Gabba is more known because of Oz test record there, historically Joburg & WACA (fastest in the world) have generally been the fastest pitches across generations.

True. I still cant believe this. Should not have played test series at all. What's the point of playing one test only.

I heard the Aussies commentators saying that Perth pitch isn’t that Perth pitch  anymore and now the new Gabba pitch might be the fastest.

The one we played on last tour was the fastest down under, IIRC it used the same soil as the one at the WACA. Gabba on the other hand has a reputation like that more because of the movement pacers get consistently in the matches played there, except that 2010 test vs Eng & probably the D/N game vs Pak that venue hasn't been a high scoring affair especially if either side has a semi decent bowling attack. If you've seen some of the matches at Perth, barring few that were played on dead roads you'll notice the bounce is steeper there & slips stand further back. It's a myth that keeps getting regurgitated just to make it seem like you can't win there, psychological warfare & all that BS.

Look at how he is targeted by India's own fans let alone the opposition.. Which 23 year old won't be impacted by facing such constant abuse? He needs to inprove on a lot of things but calling him a softie is extremely harsh.

They are playing cricket , they are bound to get injured if they are not good enough with bat. That is part of the game, they need to get better and handle it.

Its always been thus. If you want to play elite level sport then be prepared to take some body blows and pain. Learn and come back tougher. If unable to take it then take up knitting.

 I am not talking about their toughness or grit.

I am sure they are all tough guys and can handle pain but it is uneasy to watch them fend off the balls and they seem to be not equipped at that whatsoever. 
 

It’s like watching piers Morgan vs Bret Lee only in this case Bret Lee is not goofing off or taking it easy.

They were dishing out to Aussie bowlers so they were getting it back. That is part of the game.

And it is taking eternity for jr. Kohli to come. He could have easly played till 3rd test as they are still awaiting for the baby. He simply chickened out. Had he been played till 3rd test we might have been competed better.

There's no need to get scared. These are adults who know the dangers. They themselves would rather die on the pitch than have a pina colada at a beach after running away from a match. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Gabba is not the fastest pitch. Fastest is the optus stadium, Perth which is also the bounciest. Gabba actually has very little movement through the air or off the pitch. What it does have is steep bounce from just short of a good length and that's the spot our bowlers have to target and we have to be extra wary of Cummins as that is closest to his natural length. 

 

Most of the wickets are either  caught at slips or at short leg, fine leg, deep square etc. Not too many bowleds/lbw's. Hope our bowling /fielding plans take this into account.

Gabba is not the fastest pitch in Australia. If anything, it is known for his tennis ball bounce and Australia's magnificent record. They generally play their first game of the season here and crush any fight in the oppositions.

Gill, Rohit, Pant will be up for it and will definitely score as they're more adept at playing the horizontal bat shots. Pujara, Rahane and possibly Shaw need to grit it out to make it more competitive. Saha probably will be hopeless but got to play with what you have. The best thing is that you can leave the ball on length here. No risk of getting bowled/lbw. Ashwin and Siraj will do well with the extra bounce. 

 

I'm actually very confident and upbeat about going into this test. Let's breach the fortress and write new history!
