History should be remembered - Australia couldn't defeat an injured Indian side missing atleast half the key players

Almost Everyone(including me) said India defeated australian side in 2018 when it missed warner and smith. And there is some truth to it. By the same logic history should be remembered for what this great indian team achieved without its best batsman (kohli), first line bowling attack (ishanth, shami and umesh) injured players jadeja and kl rahul.

 

Let the records say India played without half its first side and it still maintained to draw against a full strength aussie side. A full strength bowling side couldn't get indian batsmen out bowling for 130 overs.

Vihari knew it was going to be his last test. But he played with all heart and guts he could muster. This 23 run knock of his will be etched in Indian cricket history for ages. Definitely the current leadership has created the drive in players to excel and give it their everything on the field.

 

Just compare it to what a certain gentleman who also happened to be the captain said after 2019 world cup semifinal loss -- 'We lost the match in 15 min while batting'.

From all the time I spent watching test cricket, I think most sides wouldnt have been able to handle the pressure of being able to play out 130 overs on a fifth day track against this type of attack., I have seen teams crumble on pitches more flatter than this.  When Ponting said India would get bowled out for under 200 in second innings, I didnt think it was an exaggeration. This is a very special effort. Laxman and Dravid would be very proud because they also used to play these sort of rear guard innings.

It is not Australin team's fault that Indian team is injured.Samething like last series it was not Indian team's fault for Warner and Smith missing out. You play what is infront of you as a team. It is credit to Indian team for fight back.

No No. Nobody is at fault here.

 

Just acknowledging the ground realities of the persistent troubles that the indian team faced in this tour and still managed to elicit an impressive win in MCG and an era-defining draw at Sydney.

If they can cap this series with memorable win at Gabba, it would become historic.

Questions must be asked of Australian team's quality and ability.  If India had struggled to beat a depleted Australian touring team then lots of knives and guns would've been out (rightly so!) questioning team's ability. This Australian team is heavily reliant on Smith's exploits.

Folks should note that Pant's wicket did NOT lead to India giving up on the chase.  Pujara attacked Cummins and took 3 back-to-back boundaries off of him.  The chase was still ON after Pant departed.  It was only after Pujara's dismissal to a jaffa, and Vihari's injury, that India were forced to give up on the win and focus on the draw.

If we had one of Ishant/Shami, and Jaddu - I would say India would be favorites.  With Ishant, Shami, Jadeja, Kohli, out, Ashwin not 100%, question marks on Pant, its a bridge too far.  

 

Not impossible - for this team, nothing is impossible.  But odds are not in favor.

They have already exceeded expectations. But teams need these sort matches and series  to become great.It gives players confidence that they can achieve anything.

I for one always knew that 2018 was no fluke.

India were in form and firing. Everyone were at their peak ability. No Smith, nor Warner or anyone would have stopped that particular version of India who were determined and hell bent on beating Aussies. 

 

Virat has not lost a single match when he wins tosses in red ball cricket. Only match he lost was a pink ball test in Adelaide and even there India dominated the entire game barring one session. Not to mention India dropped a plethora of chances in that match to gift Aussies a free win.

True.

 

But often I have seen fans from other nations mark our win 2018/19 with as asterix. So why not now that we are playing basically our C team?
