Ishant 2.0 or Bumrah will not bounce England out in India, bouncer is good as a surprise tactic in India but even then you need really quick bowlers for that. Only Bumrah can do that in the first few tests & I doubt he'd expend his energy bowling 4-5 short balls in an over & hoping Root falls to the 1 sucker ball in that Chennai heat. That what I mean. Surprise ball. Not bouncer barrage. Sorry I din't state that clearly. Just bowl line and length on the stumps and a suprise bouncer here and there every over. Link to comment
R!TTER
Shami & Umesh aren't playing the first few tests, unless something major changed recently? Link to comment

Yes & that's why the biggest miss, at least for the first two tests, are Shami & Umesh besides Jadeja of course. The two have had the best strategy & results for pacers in India the last decade, by far - Host country India Start of match date greater than or equal to 1 Jan 2010 Type of bowler (by style) pace bowler Qualifications wickets taken greater than or equal to 30 Ordered by bowling average (ascending) Page 1 of 1 Showing 1 - 4 of 4 Return to query menu Overall figures Player Span Mat Inns Overs Mdns Runs Wkts BBI BBM Ave Econ SR 5 10 Mohammed Shami (INDIA) 2013-2019 16 32 438.4 94 1307 62 5/35 9/118 21.08 2.97 42.4 2 0 UT Yadav (INDIA) 2011-2019 28 56 731.5 129 2356 96 6/88 10/133 24.54 3.21 45.7 2 1 Z Khan (INDIA) 2010-2012 11 19 351.1 78 1039 33 5/94 8/137 31.48 2.95 63.8 1 0 I Sharma (INDIA) 2010-2019 28 53 764.3 182 2171 65 5/22 9/78 33.40 2.83 70.5 1 0 Against non minnows - View overall figures [change view] Opposition team Australia or England or India or New Zealand or South Africa Host country India Start of match date greater than or equal to 1 Jan 2010 Type of bowler (by style) pace bowler Qualifications wickets taken greater than or equal to 30 Ordered by bowling average (ascending) Page 1 of 1 Showing Return to query menu Overall figures Player Span Mat Inns Overs Mdns Runs Wkts BBI BBM Ave Econ SR 5 10 Mohammed Shami (INDIA) 2016-2019 9 18 253.0 53 687 31 5/35 6/116 22.16 2.71 48.9 1 0 UT Yadav (INDIA) 2012-2019 18 36 478.5 89 1478 52 4/32 6/59 28.42 3.08 55.2 0 0 Z Khan (INDIA) 2010-2012 11 19 351.1 78 1039 33 5/94 8/137 31.48 2.95 63.8 1 0 I Sharma (INDIA) 2010-2019 19 35 494.0 117 1341 33 4/43 7/58 40.63 2.71 89.8 0 0 Edited January 25, 2021 by R!TTER Link to comment
adi B
Leg slip ,short leg ,bat pad is the best way to get him out .Cut of his scoring shots and he'll get out trying unorthodox shot . I have seen this plenty of times Link to comment
rollingstoned
Umesh and shami are well suited to sg ball.bowling and will.be big misses. I'm not sure how we will stop root from sweeping though, a reason we had success against smith was because those easy runs on the leg side were blocked off. Root isn't as patient a batsman but is harder to keep.quite definitely. If we pre empt the scoring areas it will indicate we are afraid of him while the opposite should be true in India even with jadeja missing. We have to.hope axar does a decent jadeja impression when he plays. Link to comment
NameGoesHere
He's playing spin well in SL, even assuming that we will field a better class of spinner (Embuldeniya looks interesting but is young). I was looking at Root and realized he was following Dravid's advice to a T (the one that KP recently tweeted). Watch it. Link to comment
NameGoesHere
Lol and as I say that, he gets out trying to sweep Mendis. Well done me. Link to comment
New guy
Joe Root has played 111 sweep shots, scoring 160 runs, in the Srilanka series Hope our management is studying that and making plans for him Link to comment
ShoonyaSifar
He hasn't been tested vs reverse swing. Can Bumrah produce the magic with the SG ball? Siraj does get the ball to tail in in home conditions but unlikely he will be picked for Chepauk. New guy 1 Link to comment

GeeGaw
Can anyone confirm that Ishant Sharma is actually still alive? Seems like five years since a sighting on a cricket ground. Link to comment

Ishant Sharma hasn't bowled in a FC match for the last 13 months. Bowling a few overs in T20s will not get him ready for the 1st test. Siraj deserves to start ahead of him. Will give Ishant the time to be ready for the 3rd (D/N ball test) and 4th test (from which Siraj should be rested having played 6 tests in 2 months). Link to comment

Please take a look at Ishant's figures for last 5 years, they are ATG level . We can’t keep a performing senior out of the side. As of now the pecking order is: 1.Bumrah 2.Shami 3.Ishant 4.Siraj 5.Umesh/Bhuvi(if not injured) helperononline and putrevus 1 1 Link to comment
putrevus
I am glad to see Root in form. You want to see good series between two teams.I still want to win 4-0 so that they know they are playing in India is not easy. Link to comment
putrevus
Ishant is a must for first test, I would rest Bumrah if he is not ready. helperononline 1 Link to comment
figo6762
Dry out runs work on his patience . Need 5 maidens . Use ash and scar to create the pressure . Remove axar and bring in kuldeep , kuli will throw a wide one and rooty will get caught on long on in the first test Link to comment
