sarcastic Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 I think the question of Ishant Kishan being a better T20I opener over Dhawan is settled with today's innings. Now, the question shifts to how good they are with respect to each other in ODIs. Should India persist with Dhawan until WC 2023 given his vast experience and good performances in ICC events and the great partnership history with Rohit Sharma. Ankit_sharma03 Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 ill still prefer pant in ODI.... with kishen lets hold our horses ...if he fails few games i bet same ppl will declare him a hack. Remeber not to get excited so early and neither to count someone out so early nevada 1
OpeningBatsman Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 If the 50 over World cup is to happen this year, certainly Dhawan. He is a beast in that format. But can't predict what's gonna happen in 2023..he can deteriorate badly too. sorak 1
IndianRenegade Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 Too early, I kind of don’t know how good hitman will be in 2023. let alone Dhawan. Give ishan a few games on a rotation basis, if he continues to do well in this T20 series. We can see about it once he performs.
Jay Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 2023? **** not sure. Dhawan is class in ICC though. Maybe Shaw and Ishan will take over. Then. I do think Rohit will play.
beetle Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Let Kishan make his place in T -20 first . Pant and Kishan should both be in the future teams sharing wk keeping load. Both can play as pure batsmen too. Pant in test and t-20 as wk batsmen . Kishan ( in future) ODI wk keeping batsman .
Lone Wolf Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 I think Kishan has to perform well in T20s first. He certainly should be kept in odi squad. But I think give Shaw the opportunity first. He can be gun for us. Kishan can be given chances vs Lanka Zimbos in ODIs in June - July. beetle 1
SRT100 Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 It was funny watching Dhawan on TV when Kishan was smashing his way to a half century on debut. I can even recall the last time Dhawan played an innings similar that, he probably saw his international career disappear last night. raki05 and GautiMaan 2
Bigg Brother Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Dhawan has been a baggage since his debut in t20s, the reason why we haven't won either of the 2014 or 2016 wt20. We had to drop him in important matches both the time with Rahane (Oh, the irony ), Even Hitman for all his t20 accolades in IPL hasnt done well in WT20s.
Austin 3:!6 Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Dhawan is a terrific ODI opener and a cluch tournament player. People are confusing T20 with 50 overs cricket.
Austin 3:!6 Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Till 2023 world cup, Dhawan-Rohit should be our 1st choice openers with Rahul as back-up. After that, Rahul-Shaw should replace them.
dilliboy Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Dhawan has done nothing wrong to be dropped from the ODI side.. Let Ishan cement his spot in the T20 team first

So is Tendulkar, doesnt mean we should still be playing him in our ODI side. Dhawan is finished as an Indian Opener.

Suhaan Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 (edited) A request-don't behave like padosis, and don't put pressure on Kishan Edited March 15, 2021 by Suhaan sorak 1
Majestic Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Thigh slap is doing fine in ODIs currently. But we need to find a way to phase him out. He will be 38 by 2023 World Cup, so won't be at its best. Let Pant open the batting in ODIs.
sorak Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 My bad, I read it as T20s and voted Ishan. For ODIs, including the 2023 world cup I support Dhawan as he is fit, gels well with Rohit and is a beast in ICC WCs. Knowing Kohli, he will say in 2022 that Dhawan is our opener and then drop him 5 ODIs before the World Cup and select Ishan or someone else. Then drop them too if they cannot handle the sudden inclusion in WC squad. Same old playbook. Or he will read this message (directly or indirectly), then either drop Dhawan early or play him just to get back at us.
Bigg Brother Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Dhawan is beast in ODI ICC tournaments, We all know what happened when KLR replaced him last time owing to injury
