Whether it's the draw or not.. she was seeded 1. She was totally outplayed by the Belorussian. It was a no contest. I didn't see any other #1 get outplayed this way. Perhaps the preparation was not good enough.. Or maybe a little overconfidence. She is a champ either way but it wasn't down to luck.

Especially happy for Sreejesh, unlike most other high performers in the squad he has seen the worst, India finishing 12th in London Olympics (couldn't avoid last place finish against RSA) which was his first Games. That was a nightmare tournament and coming after the Beijing non-qualification everyone thought that was the end of the road for Indian hockey. Some of the criticism was so toxic/insulting back then, no one gave us a chance of comeback. 

 

From there to a bronze medal, what a journey, may be his last major competition but what a way to sign out. So many matches won because of his brilliance, especially in the mid-2010s but team wasn't strong enough to make his efforts count. Extremely clutch, big game player, leader of men, conductor (of our defence) like they have in Orchestra (Zubin Mehta).

 

Many though it was over for him after 2018 disappointments (other reasons behind us not going all the way in some of those big matches), but he stepped up in style in this huge event. 

 

All players love him, they trust him, captains may come and go but he will always be the leader on the field. No ego or superstar attitide, when his captaincy didn't obtain desired results he was happy to play under his junior Manpreet, team first mentality.

Vinesh's loss has taken the sheen off today... In happier news Aditi Ashok built on her lead from yesterday to remain close to the top in golf. Half way through... Hope she continues her form for 2 more days.

It happens when #1 seed is irrelevant.  Like Punia #2 was also beaten badly.

Don't take seedings that seriously, especially because of break in competition schedule due to Chinese virus. 

 

That Belarusian opponent has won 2 World Championship gold medals in the past. Vinesh's best is a solitary bronze.

 

Same with Deepak's American opponent yesterday in SF. Though he didn't get a seed he was seen as the only threat to the legendary Yazdani from the other half. 

 

Some favorites don't take ranking tournaments seriously and not just about this sport or that. Similar examples can be cited about shooting and archery as well. More so during pandemic time.

The American lady has taken a 2 stroke lead in golf with 6 holes to go. Others catching up as well. Hopefully she bogeys a few to stay within touching distance. 

 

 

I wonder if this course is way easier than the ones they play on the LPGA tour. I don't see this kind of scores in those tourneys - usually a -4/-5 would be great. Here -5/-6 is average

I dunno - I haven't seen too many top seeds from other countries falling by the wayside. They seem to have the swagger and intimidatory factor that shows they are #1. Eg. The Uzbek boxer that beat Satish. The Turkish lady that beat Lovlina, etc. Our #1s do not appear to have that factor. Not sure why. Maybe it's just our perception as well.

That American who beat Punia is a legend in US professional circles. They don't take Olympics that seriously I guess. He also beat his previous 2 opponents very early with 10 point diff.

O bhai, just yesterday the top seed in Ravi's category got blanked 0-7 in R1. Serbian guy, out of repechage as well. 

 

We may have a bias here since we follow our top seeds very closely, from other countries not so much especially when Indian sportspersons aren't involved.

To give simple explanation - take least number of shots to complete each hole. Every hole has a number given to it on how many shots it must take to make it. 

 

Each day every player has to do 18 holes.

 

So in scoreboard the higher the negative number the better. For example if the leader on the score table shows -8, that means they have taken 8 less shots to complete the holes which they have done.
