A radical idea - Ajinkya Rahane needs to be promoted.

It is undeniable that the team responded to his captaincy in Australia, bringing to us the greatest moments in Indian test cricket.  But his batting has taken a nosedive, of late.  

 

So, why not transition Rahane into the coaching slot if/when RJS leaves?  Just drop him from the squad now, let him function as a player/coach from the pavilion, retire at the end of this series, and just walk into a million dollar job?  He can get along with Kohli, as he has done as VC for a couple of years.  He knows all the players and they trust him.  I think he will make a fantastic mentor to the young 'uns who are waiting in the wings.  He is quietly aggressive in his approach, a calm thinker and, in many ways, a wise Ying to Kohli's overtly aggressive Yang.  

 

The only downside is that he doesn't have any "experience" or "credentials," but I am not sure if it matters in this situation.  

 

What does the ICF think-tank think?

Ashwin might actually be a good idea. One position sealed he won't do worse with the bat that Rahane or Pujara in current form. Kohli can play as a batsman, imagine getting the prime Kohli for few seasons along with new sn improved KLR and up coming Gilll golden. If Jadeja could captain he would be even better as he bat's better than all of them and can bowl in the right condition.
