Miracles you have witnessed in Indian cricket since you started watching the game

I started watching the game around 1995, it was the 1996  world cup that totally got me obsessed.

The miracles that I have witnessed in my journey as a supporter of our team:

1)  In the mid-90-late nineties followed by early 2000s, I thought the Aussies were somewhat some supermen and even drawing a test match there would be a great achievement.

The Aussies were a marauding team then and we were truly  pathetic.  Times have changed so much that forget about drawing a single match - we have beaten them 2 test series in a row on their own turf. I did not imagine this was possible in my lifetime .

2) There was a time where we where unable to beat even Zim in Zim in Tests ( because it was away...duh and we couldnt bat at all outside subcontinental shores ). Even winning 1 test match in Zim or West Indies - against  pretty weak WI sides would give joy for 2-3 days. These days we would brutally and mercilessly whitewash them in a no-contest.

From having the WORST W/L record in away test matches for the entire decade of the 90s, we currently have the best W/L record for the last 1 decade. We expect to win every away series. Unbelievable transformation.

3) I thought it was beyond us to produce a world class truly fast bowler, heard stories about our diet ( lack of beef in diet to be precise ) being the prime reason - why Pak!s with the same DNA would produce them in an assembly line. Pak!s 4th or 5th choice bowler or bowling all-rounder would bowl faster than our  "strike" fast bowler ( the days of BKV Prasad and Mohanty ).   Now we wipe the floor with the Pak!s in terms of producing phasssst bowlers and have an assembly line in place. Never imagined this would be possible.

4) Playing in the top 4-5 elite county sides was a huge ego booster, that a foreign side thought our player was good enough to play in their conditions.

Now we make elite foreign players do mujra in IPL.

The expectations of us fans are leagues above what they were compared to what they were in those days.

Agreed we are STILL mostly a one sport nation ( but changing ), agreed with our size, resources and muscle we should be steamrolling all the other sides for fun anywhere, anytime.

But look how far we have come from " those " days and extrapolate the level of progress for the next 20 years.

Have I missed out any other "miracles" ?

2013 Champions Trophy final..

We had no business winning that final after being 58/5 or something and then the Morgan/Bopara partnership. We used all our luck in the final so maybe that explains our misfortunes since then.

BG series 2001. Remember watching it as a 9 yr old. My first recallable cricket memory.

Indian fans confidence in their team was at an all time low. People doubted not just there abilities but also their integrity.

After we were demolished in the first test, remember my uncle ranting how Sri Lanka, having population less than many Indian states, was better than us lol.

Eden Gardens comeback by the Indian Team still remains the biggest miracle for me.

ATG Australian side coming on back of a 16-17 Tests winning streak, demolished India in the first Test at Mumbai and were on the verge of a victory by an innings in the Kolkata Test when the impossible happened .

Harbhajan taking a Hat-Trick, India following on,  Dravid and Laxman batting all day without losing a wicket , Laxman going on to register the then Highest Test Score by an Indian. Declaration on the final day and dismissing Australia a few minutes before the time was running out for India. Harbhajan was the demolition Man but even the supremely talented  Tendulkar bowled smartly and chipped in with important wickets in the final session of the match

The tension , drama and excitement built over a period of 5 days cannot even be replicated in a fictional script. Amazing Eden  atmosphere , couldn't have happened in front of a better crowd. Everything happened so perfectly, it still seems too good to be true.

India went on to win the Next Test and the Series but it wasn't a comfortable ending, Harbhajan and Sameer Dhighe fought through some tense moments to secure the series victory.

Dont think we will ever see such a comeback by any team against an ATG side when the Chips were down.
