Can India win home tests on auto pilot?

Can India easily brush off any test team at home, irrespective of who is captain?

  1. 1. Can they?

    • Yes: we now have sufficient quality in our domestic cricket. Most of our spinners are clutch, and are very good A/R for home conditions. On field tactics don’t matter as much as team selection/toss luck
    • No: we might get away against the lesser teams but top teams can still beat us skill wise, so on field tactics are extremely vital

Why mention only spinners? Apart from bumrah who has only bowled in 2 home tests, all our bowlers average below 27 at home

Bhuvi - career average 26 at home

Yadav - career average 24 at home

Ishant - last 5 years - average 23 at home

Shami -  career average 22 at home

I would say pacers have equal, if not more impact in home tests and blown teams away

once ashwin, shami, umesh leaves then it ll be interesting. In fast bowling we have siraj n bumrah but their is no replacement for ashwin

Yeah Axar can replace Jaddu, around 6 years age gap.

No offie to replace Ashwin, a worry there. Hope Kuldeep develops...otherwise all in line are leg spinners and SLA.

not even close to equal impact at home. They bowl far less number of overs

Sundar will do okay job at home. Rahul Chahar should be next in line.

In terms of tactics, good captaincy usually comes into play when a team struggles for answers and the captain attempts to find one by bringing in a specific bowler, changing a bowler’s end, working on field placements, promoting a different batsman up the order per conditions and form, …

Strategically, it comes from building a good and confident team for the conditions, form and long term development of players

If you have a bunch of established players and you create rank turners, you can get by in auto pilot mode but it may not necessarily develop a good team in the long term esp. if accounting fir different type of conditions

If you want to create a healthy rivalry with different teams , one way is to create sporting conditions at home. That can bring various captaincy elements into play better

Batting can only improve once Rahane and this version of Pujara (either he improves or makes way) exit. Rohit, Shaw, Mayank, Kohli (surely there will be resurgence), KL, Gill, Pant, Vihari, Sundar all will do the required job which isn't much tbh considering the strength of our bowling unit. Also Jaddu, Axar, Ashwin, Thakur can contribute with the bat.

Quicks fine, spinners fine, batting future (for home matches) is bright....for next 2-3 years at least.

Beating this Indian team in India is one of the toughest challenges in the history of cricket. When we are fit/fresh and play anywhere close to our best don't think there is any team in test cricket history that can escape a hiding in India...that includes ATG WI/Aus. This is the GOAT home side, all bases covered and great bench strength, intimidating aura. Equivalent of Nadal on clay.

India Now Unbeaten at Home For 13 Test Series

Shami, Umesh, Ashwin will probably retire around the same time. First big challenge.

sundar as bowler is no match to ashwin

Rahul needs to have a lot better control if he wants to do well in red ball cricket

Sundar is young. I am looking at him as bat AR who bowls significant overs in India.Obviously has to develop both skills.

Ashwin will be irreplaceable for sure, but we'll continue to do well at home

High time we have a proper series at home against ROTW.

Conway

Latham

Root

Smith

Shakib

Kock

Holder

Jamieson

Cummins

Lyon

Rashid Khan

Reserves: Elgar, Karunaratne, Kane, Labu, Angelo, Stokes, Mushfiqur, Moeen, Leach, Hazlewood, Boult, Starc, Rabada, Maharaj, Mehidy Hasan....can easily have a strong 25 member squad

Make it happen BCCI, 4 test series will be fun

England had us at home this year..  Ultimately we had to come into a proper gloves off contest on turners.  All major batsmen in middle order went missing. Gill had a reality check at the top.   Rohit & Ashwin in Chennai saved us & then Pant Sundar carried the team in rest of the games.  4th & final test was heading towards a cliff hanger after that amazing spell by Stokes.  Again Sundar & Pant came to the rescue.  I am dead sure Australia of 2017 would have beaten India of 2021 without Shami Umesh & Jaddu.

2023 Australia tour of India will be interesting.  They will come back prepared from Pak & BD tours & will be battle hardened.  Hopefully we build a solid batting unit till then.

Probably final chapter of Ashwin vs Smith.  Two ATG of this era.

T20 bowling and test bowling are very different.  Chahar has a long way to go.

Do they? Before the last england series, over 50% of wickets in last 4+ years at home were taken by pacers

India will win 3-1. No team in history (including Indian teams) can challenge this Indian team. Jadeja and Ashwin with their batting make this team unbeatable in a series.

Till the time Ash Jadeja Shami Umesh are around its very difficult for any other team to beat India in India or even dc conditions. Very limited scope for sc teams, non sc teams have even lesser scope unless they have freak players.
