rangeelaraja Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Being a mere consultant on tour like Haydos is okay, you don't have to step on shores where your life is always in danger as a foreigner. Would be extremely surprised if Kirsten agrees to this role. Under_Score and Sunil_narine024 2
Lord Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Didn't he refuse India job as he didn't want to stay in India?

That is a benchmark. Any long term full time coaching assignment would be judged against THAT benchmark. A WC win doesn't come easy unless you are an all time great time comfortably above the rest. So it could have been an excuse. It is easier to show "success" and results as coach of a weaker team that has not won anything. Under_Score and Sunil_narine024 2
putrevus Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 (edited) What is so great about Gary Kirsten as a coach. I would take Shastri and Bharat Arun over him anyday. Edited October 30, 2021 by putrevus rangeelaraja 1

For sure. I am certain Dravid too will make a far better coach than Kirsten. Under_Score and Sunil_narine024 2

For neighbours, beating India with Lolhi as captain in T20 is a benchmark
Number Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 One good thing about his tenure was he was a hard task master. Gambhir told he used to make even Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra bat for half an hour in nets and it was evident that our tailenders used to contribute more in those days unlike today when they are walking wickets. The coaches that followed him were mere yes men to the superstar captains. That said he had a very strong odi line up. 9 players has their fixed slots in the 11, leaving very little choices to make for captain and coach.

So what , it was played at home and India had a very powerful batting lineup at his disposal.Winning a worldcup does not make him a great coach. I don't think he did anything to change the way Indian team plays and competes. Shastri surely did that,he has made this team compete everywhere with far less batting talent.Did they win any world tournament no, but it needs some luck too.

We are competing everywhere due to bowling for which Bharat Arun deserves credit. Batting we still get 36 all out and don't dominate even at home. Winning WC is always biggest thing. And no one had won at home before that.
