India clearly missing the services of Shreyas Iyer in World T20

All the hype for lack of power hitting but India struggled in both their match due to poor show from top order.

Shreyas Iyer is a kind of player who plays with responsibility and brings that calmness in the team which India missed out. Today just to make a spot for Kishan in the XI, they messed up their whole batting lineup.

Rohit batting at 3 and Kohli even worse at 4 when all through IPL he opened and looked good in powerplays but struggled after that. It was absymal knock from Kohli because he chose a wrong position for himself to bat.

I think India missed the trick by doing disservice with Shreyas Iyer as things could have been different with him coming at 4 or 5 after the ball has gotten a bit softer and holding one end, allowing the likes of Pant and Pandya to go all guns blazing.

Absolute shambolic stuff!

Even if you play Richards under Kohli he will play like some 3rd grade BD player

If richards played under Rat, he would give him an epic beatdown and seize the team from his toxic captaincy. Sir Viv feared no cricketer, either on or off the field. would have given epic phainty ot Rat.

Seriously. We are going at 5 an over and you need another touch player in the top 5? Who is  next, Manish Pandey?

We needed more firepower.

The issue isnt Run Rate - The issue is India losing wickets in the power play and to bowlers like Shadab Khan and Ish Sodhi and losing 3 to 4 wickets in 10-12 overs would limit to 110 runs.

Shreyas Iyer even if scoring at a SR of 100 and not mindlessly losing his wicket would definitely be an asset in the middle order

Ideal tuk tuk 11 to take India through a time machine to the early 21st century:

  • KL - Champion cricketer whose strike rate is much better when he plays for India (actually went at around a miserable 87 in the two key games). If you hang an orange cap, he will charge at runs like a bull when it supposedly sees red
  • Rohit - Great hitter of the ball when he gets to a 50 (hardly ever gets to a 50 frequently though and may need many chances)
  • Kohli - World's best T20 batsman based on rudimentary stats (needs to play a few bilaterals to pad those)
  • Gill - The next big thing (in tuk tuk?)
  • S Iyer - The missing link who would have turned Ind's fortunes
  • Jadeja - AR who can hit like no other. World's best all format AR
  • Thakur - Another AR who will demolish any attack
  • Ashwin - Cleans left handers as easily as washing his hands. World's most dangerous off-spinner and can bat too
  • Shami/Bhuvi - Experienced campaigners who can pick up wkts and destroy teams at the death
  • Bumrah - World's best fast bowler. Batsmen shiver at the sight of him. Makes scoring impossible at the death
  • Varun C - A mystery spinner who no one can read. Not even Indian batsmen who play him regularly

This team would crush any opposition ... Kicking out hacks like SKY, Kishan, Pant & SDP. Watching them bat gives me heart attack as whenever the ball goes in the air, I think it is out. Should take singles. Just tap the ball and run, how difficult can that be? Pant's keeping is amateurish too so throw the hack out.

KL to keep. Rohit to captain. I visualize him winning ICC events like he does for Ambani powered and visioned MI.

The above team will not only crush every team on this planet but also on other planets. India has money. It is powerful. People are jealous of IPL. We are the new super-duper-power. World relies on India for cricket income so they should salute us. If not, we will leave ICC ... Also, Ind's GDP is on the rise. China is no match in military. In fact, soon USA would be under India's influence. India rules the world!!!

he is kind of like rohit sharma. Can hit huge 6’s. Needs some time to get set but on perfect for these kind of conditions. If this was Aus-SA, one can have doubts but on these kind of pitches, he can be brutal.

you wont win games by consolidation and scoring big at death.. its not ipl where you will get some third rate bowler to cash in.. top international teams in WC dont give you that luxury.. and par: sub par scores are not enough for our bowling

iyer in certain conditions is a good prospect. however, one issue that I feel he has is strike rotation. he is better than some, but there's still scope for improvement

however, one player - be it Iyer, Dhawan, Bradman, or Chris Martin - would not have saved the level of intent and tactical nous shown by our batting

If the top order does not crumble in every single match - you can actually see what the lower middle order can do.

In the context of the present T20 in UAE - even a SR of 100-120 innings can be match winning as well - and if top order does it job - then you can give the other players the luxury to be aggressive and not have to consolidate

There is no point on discussing now.it is good for Indian cricket we can freshness and we ca kick kohli out completely

Kohli and Rohit are going nowhere. India has a superstar culture. These two have fanbases and brand value. They gonna keep playing t20s and screw us. Kohli will leave captaincy only in t20s unless bcci decides to take it away from him in ODIs too looking at this performance.

Nut he would become meek under Kohli, so, no he would just be another timid player.

Southee, milne, Boult all get thrashed in IPL. So don't say NZ have some great bowling attack.

Excellent point! Our players have adapted a wrong mindset against wrt to building a total and that's half the match lost right there.

I doubt it. there are people who would have put Rat in his proper place. I think Sir Viv would have been of them. anyway, the question is purely hypothethical

I call this phenomenon “the missing player paradox.” The absence of Player X from the final 11/squad is the always reason we lose. X is variable and changes everytime

yes, one day the batsman is iyer, the next day dhawan, the day after that george headley, then don bradman, and finally the ultimate Chris "phantom" martin
