Yuvi was a brilliant player but also played with a talented batting team

True but he was instrumental in winning the t20 and the 50 over World Cup.

A great example of how a captain backed (Sourav) player can do wonders for the team. Something our current captain did not do enough of.

Yes. That where I appluad Dhoni a lot. He identified some players and backed them. Rohit Sharma and Jaddu are great examples. Sadly, we haven't had any player who emerged in Kohli's captaincy as a match winner. Kuldeep Yadav could be have been a case but Kohli was too impatient.

Sehwag could bowl. RP singh was imperious in world T20. Who can forget that double strike from Sreesanth. Cleaning up Hayden and Gilly.

People laugh at nehra. Sure he is a bad test bowler. But he has good odi stats. Averages 28. Averaged 22 in most world cup and i think it was like 20 in 2011.

Very underrated odi bowler.

Another one Dinesh Karthik taking soccer style catch of Graeme smith.   Energetic side. Rohit was the laziest guy even back then lol But he was a gun fielder in the inner ring. As he developed belly that skill evaporated much like his bowling.  Yuvraj was a spectacular fielder. Uthappam was also good.

Yuvi is a legend. Entertaining, destructive, imperious. Did his best against the Aussies who were the toughest team to beat back then. Gambhir also deserves a mention due to his role in the 2007 and 2011 cup wins. Top scored in both these finals and in 2007, had an excellent tournament though he was just making his comeback to the side. No nervousness or "safe" strategies for him, just played to win. Raina was another special player. Never played "safe", never played to safeguard his average. Looked to attack from the get go.

Yuvi Raina Viru Gambhir Sreesanth Irfan (to an extent)  were special breed of clutch players.  They raised their games on big occasions.  Kohli in his early years was same.

They didn't had the resources current team enjoys now.  They had a natural flair about their cricket.

Big match player, like Kapil dev  :hatsoff: I have mocked him several times as Yuseless in a Test format, but he is an Indian ATG in LOI format.

Genuine question.

What big matches did Kapil perform in except the crucial Zim game in 1983 WC?

Maybe some in 1985 Benson and hedges tourney?
