30+ average is not that bad although we would expect specialist batsmen to score at average of greater than 35 and up to 40 ideally.

An average of 23 in 15 test matches seem very low by any standard.

 

Unless Rahane improves his game and scores atleast 35-40 runs per dismissal, he is wasting a spot in the team.

30+ average is something that any Indian batsman who has been doing well in domestic cricket can manage. That's bare minimum.

 

20s is average of bowlers who bat higher than other bowlers.

 

So why not give chances to those young batsmen.

Rahim, Sakib & Tamim all are better test batsmen than phoney irrespective of his form. It's a disgrace he has played so many tests for India & on top of that even captaining the side. Absolutely no accountability in Indian cricket.

I doubt that especially considering this is the average over all the places they played in and not just in India.

In any case, Rahane has been touted as overseas specialist but he did not do much in the last cycle and now it is time to replace him.

Atleast senior before had staggering avg around 45-50 and they declined only during last 2 years of career and than rightly drooped) retired. These parasites are surviving since last so many years with this pathetic average.

Also, has any past batsman entered terminal decline like the three stooges at just 31-32 years of age? "He's too young to be discarded, he will be back" is the theory saving these three for so long. They are either massive age fudgers or just got used to the freeloading lifestyle.

Players have been shown door if they avg that low in 20 tests. 

 

Yuvi played 40 tests with that kind of average and he had to make a comeback.

 

No one plays this bad and doesn't get dropped.

He times his centuries well. That Lords century dragged his career for few years and when everyone was adamant of dropping him, he got that MCG century. Now he will play for atleast 2 years due to that Melbourne century.
