We cant expect team India to win every game, I agree, but there is one thing in losing and another losing with a fighting spirit for your country. This was a gutless weak effort by our bowlers that lacked discipline and a game plan to hunt as a pair. By losing to this margin, it will give SA a lot of confidence should they find themselves in this predicament again in the third. I could handle a 3-4 wicket loss, not a 7 wicket. Then again who the f**k am i kidding here, with TM, when you select Pujara, Rahane and Vihari along with Pant as your middle order and below average all arounders like Thakur and Ash in SENA, we should be lucky we loss by 7 wickets and not an innings. India will do well at Cape Town. The same team got bowled out for 78 against England and then came back to win at The Oval.
putrevus Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Losing is fine, but India managed to take only 3 wickets. 240-6 or 240-7 would have been decent effort. There was no contest at all.Not just losing but if we take Thakur’s effort away, Bumrah’s no-show will be more glaring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Frustrated 1

Lone Wolf Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 (edited) Manju has produced few good articles on cricinfo & hindustan Times on why Indian bowling failed. Dravid hinted that lack of height Compared to SA quicks caused few opportunities created... Which makes it even dumb that they left out Prasidh Krishna for this tour & instead picked him for ODIs. I saw that game, at least the last few sessions so yeah I know they were bowling test match wides! It just needed a quality umpire to call them

And at Lord's where Bumrah just got wickets of Root and Robinson at the critical stage won't show up on stats as well. That 100 opening partnership that Shardul broke at Oval and the wicket of Root he took.....I think that was more impacfful - but impact is subjective. Different strokes for different folks. 4 and 3 wicket totals for the whole match are not match winning to any neutral observer. 16 and 17 wickets outside those 4 and 3 are big numbers that cannot be ignored. At Oval third wicket fell at 141 - then 2 wickets by Bumrah - then 5 wickets after that. Only those 2 are impactful? The first 3 and last 5 are not? Come on.... Edited January 8, 2022 by AKane

ODI selection outside the WC seems to be a consolation prize for those who cannot make the test team bowling wise.
DeepSpace Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 If losing the series brings in changes, I am all for it. Bring in new players in the MO. Replace Mayank with a better opener. Kishan for Pant. I hope Jadeja does not quit test cricket. Also we need a tall fast bowler that can extract bounce and is rapid i.e. consistently fast like Starc or Brett Lee.

Seniority cock sucking culture. Sir culture. Useless suck ups to older clowns. They are humans. Not Gods. Respect your parents. You don't need to address anyone else with a sir apart from Gods. This is stopping us from picking the right personnel not just in cricket but in a lot of fields. Sure there are plenty of Indians in top of major fields but they are probably educated abroad for the most part.

Trichromatic Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Bumrah is like superior version of Pant in bowling. Tries harder to be mercurial, rather than being patient.

Let's not go overboard. We were a man down. Siraj was injured. Carrying extra load takes a huge toll. Then I dont even want to get into our batting. Pitch got better for batting after every innings. Only reason our useless pannauti could score on the 3rd day. Average first innings score in wanderers is 353.

ravishingravi Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Maybe it’s a generational thing, but I just don’t get this
AKane Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 From cricinfo article interesting stats of Bumrah pre and post injury. He has gone from a Marshall like bowler to a Srinath like bowler. Still good but it is what it is. M Wkts Ave SR 5fers BEFORE INJURY 12 62 19.2 43.7 5 SINCE COMEBACK 14 45 28.8 63.9 1
