yeah I mean, I don't really think he's the best choice - but more about the 'type' of player he represents.  A boundary hitting batter who can slot in for the 'bowler' slot - 2nd spinner specifically....

Played 3 balls like absolute dud, felt like he has never held a bat before. What use?? The most useful bowler was Joginder Sharma, won India the World Cup and disappeared from the face of earth. 

 

I don't mind if Patel disappears without winning us the World Cup.

he has played 2 match winning mature knocks. Not the slogging fluky types but actual knocks where build during a collapse and then attack. One of them against SA and the other in tough spinning conditons against Theekshana and Hasaranga and the SL fast bowlers (who are not bad).

 

May not mean much but also opens for his side in domestic LOI competitions.

Chahar is Bhuvi-lite. With both bat and ball.  I know he can hold the bat.  But he can't match a Moeen Ali or Sam Curran in boundary hitting.  Or even a Krunal Pandya.

With axar patel at 6 and DK only a player for "2 overs" India cant play with this attacking strategy all the time. They simply dnt have the depth to do it.

I know I'm biased when it comes to Bhuvi - and happy to accept it. 

 

But I love bowlers who can move the ball, especially if they do it both ways and be deceptive about it.  Its a magical skill.  Just love it.
