Sounds good on paper, good striker and can bowl a couple if needed.

Is he good enough for top level?

didn’t like his 100 vs Ireland either. Something was missing.

so far not impressed

Doesn't have sound technique to play at the top neither the hitting abilities to be a proper power hitter.

Unfortunate but doesn't look like will have long intl career.

I don't expect him to do well in Australia.

But in this tournament, I think he will do well. Wrong decision by Rohit to not use Hooda for an over considering that Pandya was having a bad day at the office. If you are not gonna try Hooda, better don't play.

He reoeated Babars mistake..who didnt try Iftikhar for a bowl in first match..he didnt try Hooda in bowling as well..

dont know why DK was dropped if Hooda wont ball

The way they are going to play DK is , he will only be selected as a pure keeper not as a pure batsman meaning he will walk into the side only when Pant is out.

Why was Pant out in 1st match then..

or may be they consider Hooda as equally important player and wanted to give him game time against Pakistan to experience high pressure and high pace

Hooda' innings today needs to be seen in its context, He came in with a some overs to go he could have either gone for it with the risk of exposing the tail or played conservatively. He tried to strike a balance when he finally went he misjudged a slower one. His strike rate overall has been good, so he deserves some more chances.

This.   When Hooda came onto bat, that was the last recognised batting pair and 4 overs were left.  Can't go berserk with only the tail to follow.   Gradually, he was starting to build momentum.  Unfortunately, got out slogging to a slower ball.  He is being unnecessarily cricitised by many.

Biggest problem is our long tail. Batsmen don't have the freedom to go wham bam cos they know 8, 9, 10, 11 can't hold a bat. Our no. 11 starts from 8 onwards... So hooda Or kohli were mindful of that. But I agree u can't select him only for batting. His fielding is not that great either.

Hooda is still important IMO, yeah he failed to read the slower one but he was trying to support Kohli knowing he can be more aggressive than him.
He could have been tried for an over or two with ball as well, specially when Fakhar got out.
He has certain weakness but he does not waste many deliveries, plus can give you a couple of overs regularly if trusted. Not a bad option.

It's Pant and SKY who need to rethink how to play spin better, specially Pant because he is over reliant on boundries and really poor at strike rotation against spinners.

Dk and hooda are positioned based batsman , if u send them at wrong position they wont work.

They shud use hooda to target spinners

Drop Pant then or make Pant open by dropping KL.

with competition getting so tight pant has no performance actually to keep a place yet we need a leftie , infact more then one

Pak- ENG- WI have quite a few which always give a good mix

Unfortunately lack of lefties is affecting batting balance ............ currently figuring right batting order is not easy

Every combination creates a problem of its own

Even making pant opens leaves u with no lefties in middle

I get what you are saying, but Hooda is some one whos proved me wrong in past 2 years. it seems like, his technique is poor, lacks power to score quickly and his batting stance reminds me of zaheer khan lol, but I have seen him do two things very well lately.

1. Play well under pressure

2. Can somehow score quickly of very good bowlers - anything pitched up on off, he has a good cover drive, slightly short he can cut and upper cut and on the leg he can wack it above fine and deep backward, seen him hit big over long on and midwicket of anything pitched up. What am trying to say is, hes a fairly versatile player even though he doesnt give that impression.

Only question is can he do well in Aus

Exactly. Hooda shouldn't play below 5. He isn't a finisher, more of a middle overs enforcer.
