maniac Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Jadeja is one guy most of us including me have criticized time and again for his selfish cricket in LOIs or not being up to the mark. However the fact that his injury has singlehandedly brought down the fielding profile of our team. on top of that it has thrown the team balance. Keeping aside his world class fielding, Jadeja can bat anywhere between 5-7 and on worst day still bowl 2 overs. Not a single replacement or alternative gives me the confidence. Maybe it’s about time to appreciate who we have rather than these imaginary backups who have not done anything. Bowling I will make an exception. Criminal to play so many trundlers in Australia. Thank god Shami is back at least. He is an average T20 bowler but has enough presence to bring some respect to the attack due to his overall credentials. cricspirit, SRT100, AuxiliA and 4 others 2 5
vvvslaxman Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Jadeja has been playing since 2009. If Sundar gets to play that long he can pretty much do the same. He is very good no.7 by Indian standards. Not by standards of other sides with good batting depth. Axar patel was never an all rounder in the first place. So it is not that hard for Jaddu to look way better than other options. Ashwin was never a T20 all rounder. Just a T20 bowler that too 4 years back until he was brought back in. To be honest you just need a smart spinner for T20 not Test class spinner. Even Kedar Jadhav type would do. Australia doesn't use any specialist off spinners. They just use Maxie. Same way SA uses Markram. That is where Hooda can be utlizied. Sadly he doesn't given confidence as a finisher. Frustrated, sandeep and Vk1 1 2

Axar will play more test matches in coming time and his test batting technique will be honed, perhaps not at same level as Jadeja because he won't play overseas but still whatever he will play home.

T20 is all about NOW. Not what he will do in 5 years. When he does we can always promote him. Even now Jadeja is not an elite lower order hitter. He is just better than Axar and others. Lord Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Good realisation Even in many other departments we just don't have enough talent, Even the best option looks mediocre. But can't complain as long as its best one

Thakur and Chahar can decently fill the all rounder role. Lord 1
The Realist Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 (edited) Being wistful for Jadeja just illustrates how sad the predicament is. Jadeja has been mediocre in T20s ever since he first played in 2009. Jack of all trades and master of none. He's now old and injury prone so desperately need to move on. T20s require impact players and those who are in form now. But the selectors are hopeless in identifying new talents nor the right players for the right formats. Or held on to get personal landmarks at the cost of the team? Don't remember. Has he bowled badly on LOIs. Yes, but selfish? Has he slacked off on the field? Never. Just for this alone, I appreciate his contributions and feel like he is more worthy of praise than derision. AuxiliA, cricspirit, Lord and 1 other 1 3

Number Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 Another case study should be the incident/activities which caused the injury. India played Pakistan on 28th Aug. Jadeja batted till 20th over he was fully fit. India had a day off following day. Players visited some water sports activities center on the Dubai beach. Next day the news of Jadeja's injury came out. express bowling and cricspirit 2

Sundar has proven nothing in T20. More imagination from us fans. I am a fan for his Australia heroics but guy has wasted 60% of his young visible time being injured and not making to any team ( LOI or Tests). Anytime I check he is injured. No need of such brittle bones to be important consideration for tournaments like T20 WC or Regular WC. Thakur and Chahar fill the same role ( No.,8 and Bowling). They can possibly play depending on Conditions though Thakur is too expensive in T20.

Jadeja being so important for our balance shows how messed up our selections has been. Jadeja's stock as a bowler has taken a nose dive, while his batting returns have improved, his hitting ability is still lot left to be desired. If you compare options, Tewatia is better striker than Jadeja, bowling and fielding wise not as good. Sundar is great in containing and excellent batter, but lacks hitting ability. Fielding good but not great. K Pandya is mediocre at everything I don't recall other options from spinners who can bat...that leaves us to V Iyer, S Dube who are primarily batters with little bit of medium pace here and there. (Thakur is already in squad while DC is injured) express bowling 1

He is quite handy as a batsman. And he bowled excellently in the rain shortened game to win us the match. Jaddu OTOH has to be hidden away from bowling till the end of the powerplay. His fielding is excellent, but that alone isn't reason enough for selection. Besides, he is 33-34 and is not going to be around forever. express bowling 1
