Replace Ash with  Chahal, latter is a better wicket taking option against minnows and we won't need batting depth. Ashwin can come back in Perth. Aim must be to boost up our NRR, our game against RSA is in Perth, RSA vs Pak is in SCG, high chance that we will have a Mexican standoff, so NRR is vital. In fact I prefer Chahal against all these minnow teams.

Axar vs Hooda will be a debate now...  How much we will need Axar in Perth vs SA(lefties) and vs BD in Adelaide.  Both pace friendly venues too.  BD struggles vs Pace.

Honestly would love Pant for Axar...to give us more space for long batting order.

 

Could try out part time bowler for the spell to compensate....

 

Axar works his charm well in Home pitches but has no credentials outside of it.

Hooda should only play if Ashwin is not playing. If they both play, Rohit will become clueless on when to bowl Hooda.

 

Against SA, go with Ashwin. Rabada and Nortje will be fired up at Perth so Hooda should be left aside only and go with Ashwin and Axar/Chahal.

Rohit and TM very unlikely to change the winning combination.

 

So for NL game, one new thing I want to try with this team is give Virat 4 overs to bowl.if he comes good he should be able to to roll his arm for one or two overs in the middle against big team and that will make us go for additional batter in other games.

Can I get your thoughts of Thakur for Axar ? Lord is at least astute with the way he bowls albeit trundler pace, the bonus of his batting is there also.

 

Ashwin was pivotal in yesterday's win by this I mean a bowler that can bat down the order, as our bowlers are sitting ducks while batting.  Bare with me with this, if we had Arshdeep or Chahal to score those winning runs we would have lost.

 

India must assume again that our top order will crumble and we need the middle order and the all rounders to score the runs.

Pant's presence alone puts fear into the opposition. I know he has had a bit of tough time, but like Kohli he can rise out of no where and score runs and with a high SR.

 

Pant's also risky aerial shots are less of an issue if he bats in the power play too.

Is Lord in the squad or in reserves? Chahar was in reserves and I think Shardul is his replacement.
