Ashwin has the same philosophy in Tests. If the ball is doing something there is no point in hanging around. You might as well play shots when you are there.. When he played his very first test at the MCG, 2011   He made 30 in 31 balls in the first inning  and 35 in 30 balls in the 2nd innings. He clearly understood there is no point in poking around

Rohit was amazing in the inaugural WT20 (against RSA, Pak), more recently in 2019  WC.

 

KL and Bumrah have nothing to show for. 

 

KL also did decently in league stages of 2019 WC. One hundred v SL and good contriibutions v Pak and Aus.

 

Both failed in knockouts

 

Bumrah also did okay in league phase of that WC IIRC

We need to back players with such ability and mindset. They'll be inconsistent atleast initially, but will give masive boost if it works

Lots of people used to bring up Rahul's IPL overall  stats like orange cap,etc not knowing how he set up those runs.  Play slowly in the powerplay and middle overs and then accelerate towards the death overs.   Anyone who actually watched him play esp for kxip would know the actual impact in powerplays and middle.overs. that's why need to put stats in context.  breaking it down, Rahul played worse than other openers in the opening role, and middle overs and only used to catch up to the runrate in the death overs. So another opener and middle over batsman would've played better than him.  Only his death over runs would have been on par with an agressive finisher. It could work in certain scenarios and might be good for him as an individual to capture the most runs tag but not an effective from a team POV.

He needs to change his mindset as an opener. He's obviously got the ability.

My choice would've been Shaw but since he's not there a lefty in Pant isn't a bad choice

SKY- he is literally making world of diff in middle over where we lacked earlier. 

 

KL will be great at 4 but i dont know how to crack that balance.  One of the ideas i have him is drop him in semi n final since his choking chances are high and pant is a pressure player

With the  strengthen Bangalore lobby in team India, both coach and current BCCI chief, it will be hard to get rid of this guy. Only hope he can perform in the next few crucial games.

There is no point to Rahul.

 

Scores in single digits in any pressure situation.

Bats so timidly putting pressure on other opener/batters to score. 

Opposing bowlers are able to get into rhythm as bad balls not punished.

Joke of a vice-captain as he has no opinions and nobody listens to him anyway.

It is annoying more so because he played two very good knocks as opener in warm-up games which completely puts the debate of playing someone else as opener to rest. Now he will get his chances are opener in this tournament but I hope he produces the output against one of the top 8 teams too.

He can change everything in one game. It is upto him. Play a blinder in  a crunch game. All will be good. In IPL you absolutely have no pressure being a captain. Even there he didn't express himself.  Then his comment about strike rate. Even most recently against SA registered the slowest 50 for India in T20I same match where SKY made quickfire 50. Unless he fundamentally changes himself selectors will be under a lot of pressure.

I just caught the highlights again.  He has this positive intent. May be as a pinch hitter up the order he can be used. Just like we used Yusuf Pathan in 2007.
