BacktoCricaddict Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 (edited) Half the discussions about K L Rahul focus on his supposedly "defeatist" "sad" "body language" issues being the cause of his failures. I beg to differ. Virat Kohli never had any body language issues but he struggled for 2.5 years before turning it around. Prithvi Shaw has a confident demeanor but couldn't put bat to ball before working on his game recently ... heck, M S Dhoni had immaculate body language for the last few years of his career, but he couldn't buy a boundary. Bad body language does not cause failures. Failures lead to bad body language. The guy is out of form and there is some glaring technical issue that has crept in and it won't disappear even if he strutted into the field chewing gum like Viv Richards. Harping on his body language is not going to help solve his batting issues. He needs to step away for some time and work things out, and come back when he is in good form. Because, when the guy is on song, he can be unstoppable - even with a sad look on his face. Edited October 27, 2022 by BacktoCricaddict ravishingravi, SRT100, sandeep and 3 others 2 1 3

IndianRenegade Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 By body language what is implied is conviction in stoke play, twice he has been played on against naseem with a nothing shot. The was no intent or plan to score runs, he just stays there trying to survive. When you are playing really fast pace, such indecision is enough to take your wicket. Norman, Vk1, raki05 and 1 other 4
gattaca Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Body language creates that environment around you. Even your teammate might not feel confident if you don’t look confident. It’s like a doctor operating on patient with worried look the whole staff might feel tensed and make a mistake. KLR does bash minnow and goes missing against good teams though. raki05 and Vk1 2

Trying to counter swing with soft bottom hand that is, not nervous or nothing shot. You can’t do blind ghumaos like lappebaaz Pant early on. They usually start hitting in the 3rd over Laaloo 1

See where he was during both the played ons, completely in the middle of doing nothing (was it going to be shot or defense? No idea!!) & beaten by pace. See, his game as opener has been to play circumspect for 3 overs, play a few shots later and later push further. If he fails while being circumspect, looks meek. He doesn’t think playing like Sky will get better results. Sky didn’t fare well as opener with his flamboyance. You guys think Pant the lappebaaz will suddenly play like Bahubali compared to KL. KL needn’t play like the whole team depends on him Play natural and there are batsmen like Kohli, Sky, Pandu and Pant/DK to come along. He played 2 50s , just 2 matches ago. Sabr karo, he will come good
vvvslaxman Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I think he has to stop assuming he is Rahul Dravid. Rahul Dravid's instinctive shot is defense. He can pull that off even in sleep. That is not KL Rahul's instinctive shot. SRT100, Chakdephatte and raki05 1 2
nevada Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 If he had been scoring runs, there wouldn't have been any complaints about his body language. But due to his lack of runs and choking at any hint of pressure, his dour demeanor gets called out. coffee_rules 1

Someone of his class to be bullied and intimidated by a bowler is laughable. Especially more so when you consider India's greatest batsmen in SRT and Sunny where 5 foot nothing players that made bowlers afraid. The irony is palpable. I think it sets a horrible mental approach for the rest of the team having KL open, he is literally scared out there. In Test Cricket at least he has the luxury to waste away many deliveries. In a T20 WC he cannot afford this, he must be dropped. Pant opening with Hitman, sets up a Left/Right combination straight away. Its a lot more attacking approach. Both Hitman and Pant can and do go big too they can easily set a platform for the rest of the batsmen. singhvivek141, raki05 and Swag 3

ravishingravi Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Actually he should be given an anchor role in this team if he has to play. My feeling is that if he plays 20 overs he can get 70 plus. This should be goal for him.

They can easily go tuk tuk. KL just suffocates the innings to the extent that he places too much pressure on other batsmen. express bowling 1
Bigg Brother Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 (edited) People talk about body language because he isn’t incompetent, He is someone who has played high pace comfortably in every format, smashed bowlers in every formats . Nobody is going after his Sad/Sincere face. Nobody would complain if he gets out to unplayable balls like Vs Pakistan in wt20 2021. It is his timid and tentative approach towards even ordinary balls that is concerning. For ex,look at how he approached first ball of Shaheen- it was fulltoss which he would put away for boundary against any other bowlers 9 out of 10 times, here he ended up almost giving his wicket. Same ball by Afridi yesterday against Madhevere and he gently tucked it towards square leg for 3 runs . KLR’s premeditated mindset of playing out initial overs is worrisome because he is neither playing those overs out nor scoring runs . This kind of approach allows the opposition to run over you. It gives an appearance to viewers that he is incompetent, someone who doesn’t belong to this level which isn’t true… Edited October 28, 2022 by Bigg Brother express bowling, coffee_rules, Laaloo and 1 other 4
singhvivek141 Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 (edited) Disagree with OP here, KL looks severly underconfident of his abilities right now. It looks like he's lost somewhere and isn't fully 100% engaged in the match, consistenly late while playing the shots and then not even listening to his captain who asked him to review the decision. More than the deliveries and it's his indecisiveness and confusion which is impacting his shot selection and adding pressure on others. If I can compare, KL Rahul's body language these days is very similar to what Ajinkya Rahane when he was out of form...always carrying that guilt look on the face. Vk1 Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I would have supported OP for any other cricketer but KL Rahul.. he is definitely meek timid or whatever...
Need4Speed Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 (edited) Its simple..wo bowlers ko chadhne ka mauka de rha hai..TM was going gung ho about agressive approach before WC..its nowhere to be seen from him… That defensive demeanor is making him look like a sitting duck..which bowlers can sense easily..and he ends up getting out with inside edges many times..being on backfoot mentally.. He didnt even took DRS on that lbw he is so much poor.. he will struggle against Ngarva and Muzrabbani if he continues to be on backfoot mentally.. Edited October 28, 2022 by Need4Speed
