Is Ben Stokes the most “clutch” cricketer of the modern era?

Epic World Cup final knock

Epic knock vs Aus chasing in Ashes test match.

Must win T20 game today.

Also remember him playing some back to the wall innings in IPL when he was an mvp for that season.

Even during that famous Mitchell Johnson series he was the only guy who stood out and got a 100.

People will bring up his 4 6s in the final over but that is unfortunate. No one would complain if a batsman gets a golden duck in a one off knockout.

Overall he is one of the most clutch players of modern era. Can think if anyone comes close.

They had a collapse and match went to the last over. 129-6 at one point. Apart from the top 3, look at the next highest score.

still had Malan to bat. Even Wood can bat.

Plus he could take his time. Hales made it easy.

Also 79 off 55 balls against us in a must win game for his team in 2019 WC. Came in at a tricky time and played a great innings.

I won't say he is the most clutch cricketer but you can say that his knock in 2019 Final was the most clutch knock hands down. Amazing batting under extreme pressure.

Most clutch batsman can be David Warner (2019 World Cup and 2021 WT20) or Steve Smith ( for knockout performance). In World T20, Kohli has been the most clutch but in ODI World Cup, he has been awful up till now.

Please tell me you're kidding.

Or else this is just recency bias talking. Kohli is nowhere ... and i mean NOWHERE close to Smith in terms of clutchness and rising up to big occasions.

performed in 2014 and 2016 knockouts. And many games v Pak.

Smith has done nothing in T20 knockouts. Even in their win last year he was a non factor.

Smith has also performed in Ashes series against England, which are extremely high pressure for an Australian player. .

To his credit, Kohli has done well in WT20s but his dismal record in the more prestigious ODI wc knockouts leave a terrible impression. He could have easily stamped his name as a mentality monster had he saw India home in atleast one of the 3 big chases (2015 SF, 2017 F, 2019 SF), heck atleast a couple of okayish 40-50 run knocks would have sufficed but failing to cross even 5 runs in all those game ... just sticks out like a sore thumb.
