How long will the Mumbai lobby keep pushing for Shreyas Iyer?

He is not bad.  He has problem with bouncers but he can do excellent on India pitches.  He can play spinner much better than many others.

Before the bouncer issue was identified he was playing well. Now he is psyching himself out even against ordinary short balls much like Raina towards the back end of his career.

no one will bowl much spin to him. Cant just survive on that

He has survived. I think his dismissal against short balls in recent times gives that impression. It started only recently. ODI series will give us the clue.

Shreyas vs Pace

In ODIs

831 balls 779 runs 21 dismissals  37 avge 93.74 strike rate

In T20s

531 balls 692 runs 21 dismissals 33 avge 130.32 strike rate

Can't one solve his issue against Short ones or is it impossible? Kohli got out to short balls against Edwards in his debut test series and since he hasn't looked back. Improved his game against short balls immensely....

Anyone can get beaten by Fidel Edwards. But Iyer, he gets out to any Tom, Dick, and Harry. He has one shot against bouncers which may have worked at junior level and he hasn't worked on his pull shot since then. Even if he gets into position, his pull will always lack power. Should have sorted it in childhood or at beat, early 20s.

S.Iyer has been decent in ODIs has scored runs in whatever opportunities he has got-His . Yes he has v.obvious problems with short balls at any pace.

He has managed that problem well in ODIs where there is no rush to score off every ball by leaving, ducking and scoring few runs in here and there.

But in T20s he can not leave/duck short balls and gets out, T20s is not his cup of tea (not his format) where there is a need to score run of each ball batter can not voluntarily leave one ball each over just because they are not good at that kind of ball.

Selections have been mindless, selecting players in formats other than the format that suites that player the best. Saying this players too have to improve specially the younger players.

I have seen him getting out to 40 year Anderson on a short ball and his speed was less than 135.

he is far inferior to raina as batter, bowler, and fielder.

I disagree. Shreyas so far has been more consistent in ODIs compared to Raina with bat. Both are comparable as fielders,  also lets me realistic, if Raina was bowling today his economy would be 10+.
