Why are Indians desperate for 'Bazball' to fail?

Off late, I have come across quite a few posters on this forum as well as on social media who get gleefully excited everytime England find themselves in a difficult situation in Tests under McCullum.

 

Why are Indians so desperate for this brand of cricket to fail?

It is against ethics of test cricket in which hard fought draw is also good result. It will fail in Ashes because Aussie will not bottle like Pakistan team.

Bazball looks good when it comes off. The best Bazball was actually shown by Shami Bumrah in lords test when india blew them away or even by Pant in last home test against england.. pant has already been playing bazball for a while.. all his centuries recently are in bazball mode.. india actually let the last test slip in england when they couldn’t bat them out being 272/3 literally at close of play day 3..

But why do Indians care if this brand of cricket fails or succeeds? How are we in anyway stakeholders?

 

And Bazball is not about one or two players playing quickly. The entire batting unit has to play this way and the entire bowling unit has to bowl with an aggressive mindset.

Don't think they want it to fail. They are just skeptical about this strategy holding up against tougher opposition. Australia in Australia is probably the only time this may not work and that's not too bad. After initially being skeptical myself, now I love their approach. What's the worst that will happen? They will lose a game or a series. But they have provided plenty of entertainment to spectators and infused excitement into test cricket.

There is a certain section in our fanbase, whose collective backside is still sore from the t20 WC spanking, that want it to fail.

 

I agree with you. Their approach is entertaining and true to the temperament of modern day English batsmen. They don't produce many tuk tuk players anymore and so have had to adopt this approach.

Yep if you like cricket it's fun to watch. I've been more interested in watching England play since definitely in terms of time I've viewed them play tests.

They also seem to be sticking to their word about 'no draws' which I was originally sceptical off with their ballsy declaration in the 1st test

Bazball isn't a cameo or one or two players playing aggressively. It's the mindset of the whole team. Not just batting but the 'no draws' mentality at any cost. Originally people were sceptical on ICF and saying it was just Bairstow on his own but now he's injured and they are still carrying on with it

This. Before Bazball approach they had won only 1 test match out of 17 and with this approach till now they have won 8 out of 9 tests and they are clearly getting results. I think against strong opposition like Australia and India at their home they will try to provide more batsman friendly pitches from now on as their bowlers have skills to extract whatever there is in the pitch. This approach should work as most teams play defensive cricket currently and even we are going to go in decline soon. They have good record in SA anyways. I think i am waiting for them to tour india or next ashes in england.

India has spanked the hell out of them and won all except the away test series which they drew 2-2 ( they should have won if they didn’t chicken out in Manchester)

Only 1 of those test matches was Bazball era (and England won) so I'll be interested to see how we get on in a future test series.

Bazball seems like a short cut.

 

The reason England play this way now is because they tried to defend but their batsmen have mediocre techniques apart from root so they have to play this way to get a good score.

 

If you play England make sure pitches are either green or turners otherwise you have to match them, only certain sides may be able to do this, i.e. Australia/India.

Have to be an idiot to want Eng's approach to fail. They are trying to breath life into a dying niche sport played by a handful of countries. 

 

It will work more often than not, given there are literally 1-2 teams in cricket.

 

And if does not work so what, at least they are providing entertainment.

India plays regressive, uninspiring, defensive cricket. Indian superstar batsmen and bowlers barring one or two are all defensive and just don't have ability to play otherwise. So the toxic patriotism forces them to be critical of those who play the way that they actually want to admire but cannot since it's not their own country superstars.

Because it showcases how backdated and individual focused our own brand of cricket is.

 

This brand of aggressive cricket will not have any place for individuals reaching selfgoals at the cost of the team and superstars padding their stats. And some people watch cricket for this very purpose.

Advantages of bazball:

1) No meaningless draws in tests

2) Entertaining brand of cricket

3) If done smartly, more wins and some iconic ones

4) Multi-dimensional and players who play for the win and not for personal stats

5) Reigniting interest in tests and ODIs after t20 spoiling it.

 

Disadvantages 

1) Occasional upsets

2) Occasional Batting Collapse and hence losing match which can be easily won otherwise.

3) Not tested in bowling friendly conditions.

4) Traditional (Classic style) batsmen may fade away eventually.

Fair enough. Tours to India and Australia will be the ultimate litmus test for Bazball.
