mani sha Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Why does indian cricket not want to take a step forward . Kishan cracking a double century should put him into openers spot even in tests . i remember how we used to take chances . A vvs laxman was selected against aussie and sent to open I think in second innings and the greatest indian test innings occurred . We saw sehwag play fearlessly in Sri lanka at no 6 and he was sent to open - rest is history . now if u score a double century in odi , a pseudo intellectual debate occurs . We deserve not to be in test championship finals . i am not even going to talk about the saurashtra express . He is all that our cricket is now - Clarke, sandeep and Norman 3
Nikola Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Kishan isn't going to be reliable test batsman. If you want take such risk maybe shaw is best option currently. anish2tweet 1
Adamant Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 We are already unbeatable at home, what does Ishan provide in overseas conditions? He plays cross batted swats, has problems against movement and bounce. I don't think he will play test cricket. Also we already have Pant, why bring in another keeper bat? The likes of Gill, Shaw, Yashasvi are the ones who we should focus on(in test cricket). Lord 1
vvvslaxman Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Jaiswal comes ahead of everyone. Great off stump awareness from what i have seen. anish2tweet 1
Bigg Brother Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 He can be played in lower middle order, like Gilly. No chance as Opener. He isn't test opener. But we have Pant already.
vvvslaxman Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 A country where there not enough players he would be tried default. He might even click. Look at David Wiese. India cannot experiment every single player. Imagine nobody thinking about promoting Sehwag to the top? Current set up might not have tried that. Back then we had woeful shortage of openers. Tried Dravid, Laxman, Yuvraj, Deepdas Gupta. Now we have plethora of openers. Sehwag might not have opened at all.

sandeep Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Ishan Kishan should be next Prime Minister and Cricket captain for life. Clarke and jf1gp_1 2
mani sha Posted December 13, 2022 Author Posted December 13, 2022 Above comments are the reason we ain’t gonna succeed . A player in form trumps others imo . Similar skeptics for sehwag too . be happy with aging superstars Pollack and express bowling 1 1
cricketfan28 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 no please only odi and t20, gill should be playing tests and odi.
Moochad Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Shaw + Gill is better. New ball is dangerous in Tests, dont think it would fit his playstyle
singhvivek141 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Kishan can play as opener in subcontinent, but in conditions where new ball will move for longer time, his habit on defending with hard hands is gonna cause him trouble. Kishan don't offer anything which Pant isn't offering, opening in chanllenging conditions is a different ball game and a player need to have strong defensive technique. Even Pant for that matter will be averaging less than what he's currently if he will open. We have numerous examples in Yuvraj, Raina, Dhawan who all have mediocre stats in Test cricket despite being performers in ODI's, even likes of Mayank Agarwal struggle to get going in SENA. If you need an aggressive batter at the top, Jaiswal is doing it. He has shown strong defense and is able to attack on the bowlers as well. Rahul isn't going anywhere so he's the other one. But we also have likes of Shaw who can bring another dimension of strokeplay if needed as an opener. Gill is there as well, but I will like to move him at 3/4. Pollack 1

express bowling Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 (edited) Use his form. Kishan scored an excellent 91 off 153 balls to rescue India A in the 3rd Unofficial Test in South Africa a year back. And the attack was a decent one featuring Jansen, Sipamla and Pretorius in batting conditions that were not very easy. There is definitely potential as a test batsman in the middle order ... but not test opener. 1. Rahul 2. Gill 3. Kishan 4. Kohli 5. Pant 6. Jadeja 7. Washington 8. Ashwin / Shardul outside Asia 9. Bumrah 10. Prasidh / Sen 11. Siraj / Umran .... Both these openers are below par but I don't know if there is anyone better. May have to try Jauswal. .... Pant and Jadeja have been our 2 best batsmen in tests. We need more aggressive batters in this mould for tests. Edited December 14, 2022 by express bowling SRT100, Mosher and Lone Wolf 1 2
express bowling Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 (edited) Most batsmen cannot survive for more than 50 to 150 balls in test matches these days against better bowling attacks. So, we need batters who can maximize the returns from these 50 to 150 balls. We need more batters in the mould of Rishabh Pant in test cricket ... with just 2 sheet anchors to hold the innings at 1 and 4. Let the other 5 batters, that is 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 be stroke players. We have Pant and Jadeja at 5 and 7 for this. Need 3 more stroke players. Edited December 14, 2022 by express bowling vvvslaxman, SRT100, Downtown and 1 other 1 1 2

Gone are the 90s style selection of picking heavy scorers. That is how Bazball team has been built for England. express bowling and SRT100 1 1

vishalvirsingh Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 ishan should play for India in T20 and ODI and not in tests. He is a gutsy hard hitting batsman with limited defensive skills. Please understand he belongs to Over aggressive batsman ship, sehwag had some fair defensive skills too. this guys hits bouncers well ...if one keeps 3 players and bowl short balls to him , he would go for shots and even can get out of his favourite shot. i dont recommend playing some one who is tailor made for odi and t20 to spoil his game and play tests. tests Skills also should have players who score fast but Ishan belongs to Sehwag mould but i feel he wont succeed like sehwag and even sehwag had so many under 10 scores in tests. India does not need a gambler kind of a batsman in tests.
