Virat Kohli, Pujara and my averages came down last 3 years because of pitches in India: Rahane

Rahane average was 38 in India between 2016 and 2019 lol Atleast Kohli averaged 90 and Pujara 55 during this phase.   He might as well have said  my average in India is poor in since March 22, 2013. Otherwise it was good.

2015:

SA tour of India - Pujara and Rahane did better than Kohli.

2016:

NZ tour of India - All three scored but Rahane's 188 was on flat wicket after failing in first two test.

Eng tour of India - Rahane was flop. Kohli and Pujara dominated.

2017:

Aus tour of India - Kohli was flop, Rahane was average, Pujara was best.

2018:

India tour of SA - Kohli was best. Rahane got dropped unfairly for Rohit but was good in final test. Pujara was flop.

India tour of England - Kohli was best. Pujara was decent with one hundred. Rahane was poor.

India tour of Australia - Pujara was best. Kohli was decent with one hundred. Rahane was poor.

2019:

SA tour of India - Pretty easy series and everyone scored.

2020:

India tour of NZ - Everyone flopped. Rahane was embarassed by Neil Wagner in Christchurch.

India tour of Australia - The Rahane series as captain. Good with bat but not great. Pujara also good with bat but not great. Won't read too much into putting your body and ass on line :phehe:

2021:

England tour of India - Rahane was disastrous. Pujara and Kohli flopped too.

India tour of England - Rahane was again worst of the three. Kohli flopped too. Pujara was average.

2022:

India tour of South Africa - Kohli was average, Pujara and Rahane both flopped.

Purely (not) going by the numbers - 2015 SA, 2017 Oz at home & 2020 Oz away! You probably don't remember but the 100(?) odd we chased in Dharamshala was a tricky chase! We lost Pujara to a duck & there was a slight chance we might fold quickly if Rahane didn't play that important counterattacking innings, same could be said of MCG chase in 2020 to a lesser extent.

He has obviously failed in stitching up big hundreds & that's why he was dropped, even when set he couldn't convert fifties to hundreds & that was a big issue especially given the rest of the two stalwarts were laying eggs as well :cantstop:

Since Virat's last hundred against Bangladesh in 2019, below is the stats for both Virat Kohli and Rahane:

Virat:

Innings: 34

Runs: 892

Ave: 27.03

100s: 0

50s: 6

Rahane:

Innings: 35

Runs: 819

Ave: 24.08

100s: 1

50s: 3

Both have been very poor during the same period. Pujara was at the same level but has recently upped his average and it stands at 31, still not that great. At least we can point out one match/series changing knock of Ajinkya Rahane during that time in Melbourne but I can't think of anything coming from Virat during that time. May be his 60 odd in Chennai against England but again we had Ashwin & Sharma scoring hundreds in that Test. Rahane himself scored 67 in that Test. I am a big fan of Virat Kohli the Test captain but I cannot think of anyone who has contributed the least with the bat over the last 3 years than Virat. He has had no impact in any of the wins over that time. Even during his free fall Pujara had that brilliant series in Australia, Rahane with his hundred in Melbourne and his captaincy in the same series had more impactful performances. I don't want Rahane back in the team as he has been poor for a long time now even before Virat's downfall. But it is time for Virat to actually standup and start scoring some runs. If he does not it will be unfair on young cricketers who are losing their spots in the XI. 3 years is a long time to not contribute.

At least Virat should have taken some time off and played county cricket or FC games to get back some form. I hope he still does as Ranji Trophy is currently in action in India. Pujara went to England played a full season and scored loads of runs and you can see that he is back to scoring runs at the highest level as well. The 3 years since November 2019 has been really poor for Indian batters overall with only 2 batters (Iyer & Sundar) averaging over 50. Pant has been brilliant and has scored the most runs (1415) at an average of 42. Among top 6, Rohit has the highest average (45.27) but he hardly plays anymore and is always injured. Not sure what happened to Sundar who should be the mainstay in India Test team in the middle order. He can do what Moeen Ali did for England in Tests. I feel Sundar is more accomplished as a batter than Moeen.

But I think the management need to set an ultimatum to all the stars and give them a deadline. Australia series should be their last if they don't perform. We will be competitive against Australia even with their lack of runs as our bowlers will keep us in the hunt but that should not give them a free pass to keep playing without performances. Virat's average has fallen from 53+ to 49 now. That's a huge drop. Sachin Tendulkar had a horrible time at the end of his career after his brilliant series in SA in 2011. In 39 innings averaged 32 with 9 fifties. But again he was 40. At the age of 34, Sachin actually had a huge surge in all formats that at one point he had upped his Test average to 56.94. Virat needs to make the next 5 Tests count big time, if not he needs to go. It is sad to say this but again he should realise he isn't contributing anymore to the success of the team.

“There was no mistake (in his style of batting that his average dipped), we were playing in India for the last three years. If you look at the players who are batting at number three, four or five their average has come down because of the wickets. Pujji-Virat and my (Pujara, Kohli) averages have come down,” Rahane said.

Rahane is clubbing Pujara and Kohli with himself. :hysterical:

And can he answer how did Rohit manage to score runs on those pitches ?

As if in overseas he has maintained 50 avg in last 3 years. Atleast this meek man has an oversized tounge.

For all his failings :laugh:ne seemed an okay bat in Tests who just throws his wicket away at the worst of times. In my books he is another version of Kela (without the theatrics and the tattoos) who while not a Rohit or Kohli could easily become a slightly quick version of Pujji; but that hasn't worked out for us that often. Disappointing.

C'mon :laugh:ne atleast do something noteworthy in home series Bhai lateral tests.
