Asia Cup 2023: Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar revealed that KL Rahul picked up a niggle during his recovery at the NCA and he is likely to miss the first few games in the tournament, starting August 30

 

India chief selector Ajit Agarkar on Monday, August 21 confirmed that KL Rahul has a fresh injury niggle and that he is likely to miss the first few matches of Asia Cup 2023 campaign. KL Rahul was named in India's 17-man squad along with Shreyas Iyer as both the middle-order batters returned from a long injury layoff.

 

India picked Sanju Samson as the back-up wicketkeeper with Ajit Agarkar explaining that the Kerala star would go as cover for KL Rahul, who picked up a fresh injury scare at the National Cricket Academy.

For Dhawan - few failures and out you go.

 

For KL - umpteen failures, injuries after injuries but still being persisted even accommodating him as keeper bat

We took half fit hardik, bumrah in recent years which backfired. Varun was another blunder made few yrs back. One can understand dhawan picking injury during last wc no one can prepare for that but this KL selection will be beyond most fans.

Samson is the only backup. Can you fault the TM for selecting KL? Ishan is useless in MO. Who can replace Pant?

Why should Ishan play in the middle order.Let him open and let Rohit bat at number 4., he is slow starter and is not giving any momentum to the innings.

Anyone who is not picked for Asia cup was going to have chance getting selected for world cup. Rahul Dravid doesn't want that. So he probably played a role in selecting half fit Rahul.

After talking about flexibility, Rohit has clearly said that flexibility does not mean openers will come in the middle order or the other way round. It only applies to non-openers.
